Fletcher Hanks

Fletcher Hanks (1889–1976) is an artist who, under various pseudonyms, wrote, drew, penciled, and inked his entire body of comics work from 1939–1941. After leaving the comics industry, he lived a relatively uneventful life in Oxford, Maryland. In 1976, his body was found on a park bench in Manhattan; he had frozen to death, penniless and likely drunk.

Some consider his Fantomah character to be the first female superhero. At any rate, during his short stint in the field he created a variety of bizarre, endlessly creative comics.
