Gary Groth (b. 1954) is the founder and President of Fantagraphics Books. He is known for his probing, often ball-busting interviews; his provacative, full-throated editorials; and wide-ranging tastes in comics, literature, music, and film. In 2014, Groth won the Stranger Genius Award for Literature. He lives in Seattle, WA, where he continues to publish the work of the world's greatest cartoonists.
Let's face it: at this point, you either love him or hate him. Nevertheless, it remains indisputed that his tireless advocacy for serious comics criticism has played no small part in influencing the wider culture's embrace of comics as a legitimate art form.
