Following the successful completion of the Ghost World movie, Clowes returned to his hit comic book series with this full-color issue containing 27 vaguely interrelated stories ranging from one to three pages in length, drawn in a variety of styles, featuring various all-new characters (an angry bachelor, a love-sick teenager, an over-sensitive 10-year-old, a comic-book critic, a husband and wife detective team, a depressed caveman, etc.) as they cross paths in the small Midwestern town of Ice Haven. It's Clowes' first stand-alone issue, complete unto itself, and it may be Clowes' best attempt yet to explore the often puzzling ways people interrelate. Don't miss it!

"His Art Spiegelman-like experimentation with different illustration styles — without losing his own unique line — is what make the pages such jewels." – Entertainment Weekly

"Masterfully blending fact and fiction, this is funny, sad, chilling and absurd work." – Publishers Weekly

"Image and word coexist in an unusually creative and disturbing way in his portrait of a place where deviance bubbles just below the placid surface." – Boston Sunday Globe

"Eightball #22 continues Clowes' development as one of the premier comic artists working today... Clowes builds another of his hilariously slightly off-center worlds that have a vague sense of dread about them. Kind of like where you live." – Time

2002 Eisner Award winner, Best Single Issue

2002 Harvey Award Winner, Best Single Issue or Story

2002 Ignatz Award Winner, Outstanding Comic
