Buddy Go Home!

This first full-color Bagge book collects Hate #16-20, and tells the sad story of Buddy's return to New Jersey with his tail between his legs and (even worse) Lisa in tow. Watch and laugh as Lisa's sanity slowly deteriorates and Buddy transforms himself into an entrepreneur in the nostalgia hound racket. For the first time since the Neat Stuff days, the entire "nuclear" Bradley family returns to the foreground, ten years older since we last saw them. Enjoy the chaos that ensues when you add in Buddy's G.I.-reject younger brother Butch and his man-hating, baby-machine sister Babs. Despite the addition of inker Jim Blanchard and the move to color create the illusion of brighter times, Bagge's satire gets darker and darker, which is all for the better! That's not to say it's all doom and gloom: Buddy does buy a monster truck, after all.

Buddy's Got Three Moms!

Collecting Hate issues #21-25, this fifth volume follows the continuing adventures of antihero Buddy Bradley, now settled in New Jersey and back living with his girlfriend in his parents' basement. Bagge's lower-to-middle class suburban setting and strong characterizations make for a hilarious soap opera/satirical mix, and his manic and expressive drawing style and sharp observational writing have made him one of the most respected humorists of the past two decades. The quintessentially dysfunctional family risks disintegrating altogether with the death of Pops Bradley, while Lisa, Ma Bradley and sister Babs increasingly push Buddy towards a complete meltdown as he resists his place in this newfound matriarchy. Meanwhile, Buddy's junk shop ain't doin' so good, seeing as how his partner's a junkie. Other developments include the return of Stinky, the infamous shtup scene between Lisa and Babs Bradley's ex and her subsequent switch to lesbianism, and much more!

Buddy Bites the Bullet!

Buddy Bites the Bullet is the final arc in the 15-year story of Buddy Bradley, collecting the last five issues (#26-30) of Bagge's legendary comic book series Hate. Could it be that Buddy and his maniacal girlfriend Lisa finally decide to...(gulp)... grow up? Perhaps, but not before they verge toward an utterly hilarious disintegration with a little help from their friends. Buddy's best-friend Stinky, the one-time rock star turned drug manufacturer, takes center stage in the most riotous chapter that leads to a highly unexpected and deadly end. Bagge's work inhabits American culture like no other writer and artist, and it's not surprising that several examples of high-profile pop culture phenomena — from The Simpsons to South Park — echo his work from the last 20 years, while his comics frequently shore up the "street cred" of indie films like Kids and Pecker when used as set dressing. If you don't know why acclaimed animator John Kricfalusi, creator of Ren & Stimpy, calls Peter Bagge "the funniest cartoonist in existence" then you have no choice but to get this book.

"I love Hate!" – Matt Groening

"Hate is devastatingly accurate." – The Village Voice

"Probably the best underground comic of the '90s." – New Musical Express
