Ken Parille has published essays on Louisa May Alcott and boyhood, the mother-son relationship in antebellum America, TV bandleader Lawrence Welk, and comics. His writing has appeared in The Nathaniel Hawthorne Review, The Journal of Popular Culture, The Boston Review, The Believer, The Comics Journal, and elsewhere. He teaches literature at East Carolina University.
