The creator of the very first underground comic (God Noze, in 1964) produced a startling body of work, much of it EC-influenced, in the late '60s and early '70s. These comics, included in Optimism of Youth, run the gamut from horror to science fiction to satire, and show "Jaxon" at his most disquieting and explicit. Many classics such as "Gene Shuffle," "Leather Nun," and "Testicles" are seen here for the first time in years. Includes a long historical introduction, and a special bonus strip: "Sleeping Beauty and the Beast," an erotic fairy tale from 1978 printed here for the first time.
