Vanity Fair profiles David Levine
Written by Eric Reynolds | Filed under David Levine 15 Oct 2008 12:55 PM

I've been on vacation since SPX and as such neglected until now to link to this excellent feature (with slideshow) on David Levine in the pages of Vanity Fair. The news isn't all good -- Mr. Levine is losing his eyesight and his legendary career has been curtailed accordingly -- but the piece is a respectful, insightful profile of one of New York's most iconic artists. And it doesn't hurt that it hits just on the eve of the release of our new Levine book, American Presidents:

Gene Deitch & Tom Terrific
Written by Eric Reynolds | Filed under Gene Deitch 15 Oct 2008 12:44 PM
The great Gene Deitch sent me this nifty photo of himself this morning, taken by another great cartoonist (and would-be Zorro), Pete Poplaski, who recently visited Gene in Prague.  Poplaski brought with him the near mint copy of the first issue of the 1957 Tom Terrific comic book, which I never even knew existed until now.

Dash Shaw talks to Daily Crosshatch
Written by Eric Reynolds | Filed under Dash Shaw 15 Oct 2008 12:40 PM
The Daily Crosshatch runs part one this morning of a Dash Shaw interview conducted at SPX last weekend. Speaking of which, I should have some kind of SPX report up next week, long after anyone cares. Oh, boy!

Available now on our website and coming possibly next week to comic shops, The Comics Journal #293 features interviews with S. Clay Wilson and Alex Robinson plus a whole bargeload more. Get yourself a visual sneak peek right here (click this link if the embedded slideshow doesn't appear above, or if you just want a bigger version) and check out some teaser excerpts on TCJ.com.

I'm probably jinxing this just by typing it, but I'm hoping to bring you a new preview slideshow every day this week. Can I do it? Stay tuned.

Rocky daily strips start TODAY!
Written by Mike Baehr | Filed under webcomicsmetaMartin Kellerman 13 Oct 2008 3:12 PM

Rocky by Martin Kellerman

Starting today (after a slight delay due to technical difficulties) we are pleased to present Monday-Friday installments of Swedish cartoonist Martin Kellerman's smash-hit comic strip Rocky, in English for the first time anywhere (until they appear in our second Rocky collection, Rocky Vol. 2: Strictly Business)! One part Fritz the Cat, one part Seinfeld, one part Jane Austen (!), Rocky is a phenomenon in its native country, having spawned a glossy magazine and a computer-animated TV show (previously seen on Flog).

Come back to this link every weekday for a new strip; we'll keep a week's worth of strips available at all times so you can catch up if you miss a few days. (If you're eagle-eyed you might notice the occasional gap in the numerical sequence; a few of the original strips have Swedish cultural references that don't translate for non-Swedes, so we've omitted them.)

Rosendodson
Written by Eric Reynolds | Filed under Patrick Rosenkranz 13 Oct 2008 1:07 PM

Patrick Rosenkranz sent me this pic from his recent lecture in Chicago. The young woman in the pic is one of our favorite interns of the last several years, Shelley Dodson. Shelley came for the talk and now she's been Flogged! You can never escape us completely, Shelley.

Don't Forget to Wipe

The current issue of Spanish satirical mag El Jueves comes with a free roll of toilet paper, pictured here.  I miss American satirical magazines.
