Love and Rockets: New Stories #7 by Los Bros Hernandez - Photoset Preview
Written by Sonia Lei | Filed under previewsnew releasesLove and RocketsLos Bros HernandezJaime HernandezGilbert Hernandez 19 Dec 2014 10:00 AM

Praise for the Series:

"In the 30 years they’ve been writing and drawing Love and Rockets, Los Bros Hernandez have created wonderfully complex story lines and characters… This web of superior magical-realistic storytelling involves readers in the perplexed yearnings of a huge cast of unforgettable characters unaware of their own capacity for general self-delusion and occasional self-discovery." – Publishers Weekly

"Los Bros. are plain-spoken and sympathetic, finding pathos in even the grimiest character." – Sam Thielman, Newsday

"There are acclaimed filmmakers and novelists who can’t do what Jaime Hernandez does — or Gilbert, for that matter. When the two of them are at their most inspired, as they are here, they make almost every other comics creator today look like a fumbling hack. [Grade] A" – The A.V. Club

The currently out of print Today is the Last Day of the Rest of Your Life is an internationally-acclaimed and awarded story of a punk traveling across the green borders of Europe, no cash in hand, no passport. Ulli Lust's tale is the female On the Road and sure to sate your thirst for travel even while on the road yourself (or at the family holiday gatherings already).  Meanwhile Dash Shaw's Cosplayers series follows two girls as they cosplay real life and video-taping it from afar.

OCD Extra: December Booklist Reviews
Written by Jen Vaughn | Filed under Walt KellyOCD 18 Dec 2014 2:26 PM
This month's issue of Booklist will include review of a recent release by a Fantagraphics creator, excerpted below:
Pogo 3
Pogo - The Complete Syndicated Comic Strips Volume 3: "Evidence to the Contrary"
by Walt Kelly

"Despite its cast of anthropomorphic animals-the eponymous possum, Albert the Alligator, Porky Pine, and the rest-Pogo was the most adult-aimed of all newspaper comic strips. The fluid grace of Kelly's artwork and the inventiveness of his humor are matched by his verbal dexterity, from the characters' cornpone patois to their ingenious wordplay. Four decades after its demise, Pogo remains one of a handful of truly essential comic strips."
–Gordon Flagg

Pogo Vol. 3 was also recently on the New York Times Best Seller list, time to pick up one for you and yours!

Saint Cole by Noah Van Sciver - Video/Photo Slideshow

Saint Cole
by Noah Van Sciver

116-page black & white 7.5" x 9.25" hardcover • $19.99
ISBN: 978-1-60699-817-5

Ships in: February 2015 (subject to change) — Pre-Order Now

Saint Cole depicts four days in the life of a twenty-eight-year-old suburbanite named Joe who feels trapped working overtime at a pizza restaurant to support his girlfriend, Nicole, and their infant child. Especially when Nicole invites her troubled mother, Angela, to move into their two-bedroom apartment until she lands on her feet again. Joe reacts to this development by further retreating into alcohol. He thinks he loves Nicole but resents her at the same time. They probably wouldn’t still be with each other if she hadn’t become pregnant. Joe wants out. He’s angry. He’s in a position to act rashly. And he does. This sophomore graphic novel from Noah Van Sciver may seem like a left turn from his critically acclaimed debut graphic novel biography of Abraham Lincoln (The Hypo), yet upon closer reflection, it continues Van Sciver’s interest in pathos and the human condition.

Our tenth volume finds our band of heroes making their way back to the Kingdom of Thule by way of Constantinople and Eastern Russia. Soon they are attacked by a tribe of barbarians who kidnap Aleta for the great Dragada Khan who wants to make her one of his wives. After nearly being killed in battle, Valiant returns to his homeland only to find the threat of hunger hovers over Thule. As Val explores new ways of feeding the kingdom's growing populace, raiders threaten the lives of his family and friends. The volume ends with Val's return to Camelot, a tournament of champions, and the threat of new treachery in Cornwall. This volume also includes an introduction by legendary comics artist Timothy Truman, and a special gallery containing more of Hal Foster's incredible Mountie paintings annotated by comics historian Brian M. Willard Mullin's Casey at the Bat and Other Diamond Tales - Cover Uncovered

Willard Mullin's Casey at the Bat and Other Diamond Tales - Cover

Baseball fans, rejoice! We have the final cover design for our upcoming book, Willard Mullin's Casey at the Bat and Other Diamond Tales, which collects Mullin's illustrations accompanying baseball-themed poetry by Ernest Thayer. The original images for Thayer's "Casey at the Bat" were thought to be lost for years, until they reemerged at an auction in 2002.

With material including the poems "Iron Horse Lou" and "O Brooklyn, My Brooklyn" and an introduction by Yogi Berra, Casey at the Bat makes for a great addition to any baseball fan's bookshelf. We expect a March release for this book, though you can pre-order it in advance, of course!
