Sometimes getting together with friends and family for Thanksgiving isn't all that it's cracked up to be, as Snoopy learns when his brother Spike invites him to spend Thanksgiving in the desert, and things don't quite work out as planned. At least it's a change of pace for Snoopy, who spends most Thanksgivings with the ol' supper dish (and one lonely one at the malt shoppe as Joe Cool). It's also a tense time of year to be a bird who’s afraid of being mistaken for a turkey and roasted, and Woodstock copes with his anxieties in various ways, including by donning a disguise with Snoopy's help. Meanwhile, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, and Franklin all get sick over their Thanksgiving vacation. Snoopy's Thanksgiving is the perfect gift book for anyone whose idea of the holiday is more Charlie Brown than Norman Rockwell.

Arsène Schrauwen is boarding a boat and sailing across the wide ocean to land in the Belgian Congo, where he is to meet his cousin and help him create a utopia in the jungle wilderness there. In these first few pages of Olivier Schrauwen's surreal biography of his grandfather, Arsène helps rid a fellow passenger of a flying fish that has somehow landed in her quarters, meets a chatty older man with ceaseless advice about life in the colony, and, finally, prepares to disembark by donning new clothes and waiting, hand poised on the door handle of his room, for the entire two hours it takes the boat to reach its port.
This weekend, October 4th and 5th, Boston's going to host it's annual indie comics party masquerading as a comics show! The Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo (MICExpo) is being held at University Hall at 1815 Massachusetts Ave. in Cambridge's Porter Square. The event is free, family friendly, and offers a weekend of activities as the Boston area's only show dedicated to independent and alternative comics. Our own Paul Hornschemeier is a special guest and even designed the poster! He'll be on the Atrium level, table 31. MICE even conducted a pre-con interview with Paul.
Paul is also on a Saturday panel from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM "MICE special guests Raina Telgemeier, Emily Carroll and Paul Hornschemeier will discuss their processes in turning disparate comics material into published graphic novels. Each of these creators has worked in various formats: webcomics, serialization, anthologies. The panel will look at how the specific themes and qualities of their work come into play as short stories or serialized narratives come together into single books, exploring the definition of the term 'graphic novel.'"
Saturday, October 4th, 10 am - 6 pm, and Sunday, October 5th, 11 am - 4 pm at Lesley University in Porter Square. Be there! For more information visit the MICE website.
