The Summer 2008 issue of Art Source, the newsletter of the Seattle-based arts organization the Artist Trust, contains a feature article by curator Cynthia Rose (read a preview on the Artist Trust website) which profiles Epileptic/Babel creator David B. and highlights his upcoming visit to Seattle in mid-August, which is co-sponsored by the Alliance Française de Seattle and includes, of course, a stop and art show at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery. PRIMER FOR PROPHETS SCREEN PRINTS FLORA ALPHABET SERIES CONTINUES
NOW AVAILABLE: the next four prints in the Primer for Prophets silk-screen series. Cool Flora illustrations of the American nuclear family (and their weird pets) during the 1950s, when donuts and cake were considered essential nutrients, little girls could multi-task with brushes, and dogs craved beer!
The images derive from a 1954 trade-only alphabet booklet that Flora illustrated for CBS-TV. The second set of prints features KISSED, COOKED, GROOMED, and QUAFFED. Edition of 100 (each image), hand-numbered and authenticated.

Yesterday's Los Angeles Times Book Review features Blake Bell's Strange and Stranger: The World of Steve Ditko on the cover, and Geoff Boucher's review inside says "the book is an extremely satisfying archive of the artist's work, both famous and obscure, and... it intensely documents the twists and turns of his career." Blake is keeping track of more reviews on his own website, including the "A+" the book received from Sci-Fi Magazine, who call the book "an essential tribute to one of pop culture's most essential creators."
The comics world has a new heir. Arriving just one day before her daddy's birthday, Clementine Bean Reynolds was born Saturday afternoon (June 21) at 3:15 PM in Ballard's Swedish Hospital in Seattle. She weighed 7lbs, 2 oz, and is 20 inches long. And totally cute.
