The good stuff starts at 7pm on the nose so don't be late for The Late Child, lest we make some terrible Big Ben jokes from across the pond. The Late Child and Other Animals is not only a gorgeous graphic novel by this comics power couple but damn good read as the generational struggles of a mother and daughter come to light after WWII. See you there!

"A revolutionary and a genius with a troubled life and a horrific career path, this volume is the first of two that print his 'serious' works as well as detailing his life during the making of them. Looking for a gift for someone who loves the darker side of the history of comics? Look no further." –Menachem Luchins (of Escape Pod Comics), 13th Dimension
"It's remarkable to see art so twisted applied to such vivid pulp tales - almost as though Wolverton was trying his hardest to be Alex Raymond, but couldn't help turning out images to rival Salvador Dalí." - The A.V. Club
There are still dinners to stretch your pants, holidays songs to sing, brightly lit-balls to drop but that doesn't mean you can't start planning parties for next year! On Monday, January 12th in the sparkling new year of 2015, cartoonist Lucy Knisley will be throwing one hell of a new year for a new book, Displacement, at The Strand in New York City. Lucy's last travelogue, An Age of License, featured the whimsical travels of a 20-something with time stretching infinitely in front of her. But in the pretty-yet-gritty Displacement, Lucy takes her two 90 year-old grandparents out on a cruise. It explores ageism, mortality and life-long love in gorgeous watercolors, all bookended in a small WWII biography from Lucy's grandfather's journals.
So join Lucy in conversation with Marie Anello from The Absolute, at 7pm on January 12th and get a copy of the fully watercolored Displacement before it is out in stores. Buy a copy of Displacement or a $15 Strand gift card in order to attend this event. All options admit one person. Please note that payment is required for all online event orders at the time of checkout. The event will be located in the Strand's 3rd floor Rare Book Room at the store at 828 Broadway at 12th Street.
Marie Anello is a writer, comics enthusiast, and book reviewer located in New York City. Her reviews of webcomics and small press publications can be found in the online magazine The Absolute. She also happens to be a professional opera singer, but that's another story.
