Adventurous arts enthusiasts are again invited to invade Georgetown on Saturday, October 11 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM for the Georgetown Second Saturday Art Attack. This lively celebration of creative diversity features provocative programming in visual, performing, and applied arts at over 30 locations throughout the historic Georgetown industrial arts district.
Among the many highlights: Georgetown artist Tina Randolph's cement and encaustic paintings on steel panels at Revival Home & Garden; a Day of the Dead group show, "Día de los Muertos," including Chris Lefebvre, Amaranta Ibarra, Tamlin Marx and others at Georgetown Tile Works; "Just Kids," a charming exhibition of children's portraits by Georgetown photographer Rebecca Bolte at Bolte Creative; "Transect," new and selected works by Michael McDevitt at Georgetown Art Center; new works by Marty Gordon at the Mix; "Cosmocopia," an exhibition by cartoonist and fine artist Jim Woodring with a reading by acclaimed science fiction author Paul DiFilippo at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery; Georgetown's Dubcar performing a sensuous blend of rock ‘n' roll, old school reggae, funk and soul at 9 Lb. The public of all ages is once again invited to enjoy the unique pleasures of Seattle’s most colorful arts community during the Georgetown Second Saturday Art Attack on September 13. This lively celebration of Georgetown’s creative diversity involves up to 30 enterprises programming provocative visual and performing arts, dining, shopping and spontaneous entertainment.
Highlights of the Art Attack offensive on Saturday, September 13 include: “Phono Graphics,” an exquisite exhibition by Seattle DJ and visual artist David Rauschenberg at Georgetown Tile Works. Rauschenberg combines his passion for art and music with portraits of musical legends etched on black vinyl and mounted on handcrafted turntables; An appearance by notorious New York cartoonist and illustrator Danny Hellman, together with local cartoonists D. J. Bryant, Dalton Webb, Pat Moriarity, Max Clotfelter, and Mark Campos for a book signing of the new “Typhon” anthology at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery. Hellman will present a multimedia cartoon performance and Moriarity will perform a short music set with his 10-year-old son Jack – as seen on Willie Nelson’s website; Georgetown Art Center presents a group show of seductive encaustic paintings, and All City Coffee hosts a delightful exhibition of neo-Pop paintings by Lucas Vidana; Open salons at the studios of independent Georgetown artists.
The evening will conclude with “The Summer’s Last Beach Party” in honor of the artists, volunteers, and sponsors of last summer’s Artopia arts festival. Musical entertainment will be provided by the sensational sounds of the DEL LAGUNAS. This instrumental surf and garage combo boasts an impressive pedigree that marks the reunion of [former Fantagraphics staffer - Ed.] Tom Price and Chas Ryan of Seattle’s legendary U-Men. The Del Lagunas will be joined by Georgetown’s own DUBCAR performing a sensuous Caribbean blend of rock ‘n’ roll, old school reggae, funk and soul. Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery welcomes three compelling cartoonists in August with appearances by artist/musician Zak Sally on August 2, French cartoonist David B. on August 15, and the incomparable Daniel Clowes on August 29. These talented artists further enhance the growing perception of Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery as one of our region’s most colorful and diverse cultural assets.
Zak Sally, a notorious Minneapolis-based musician and cartoonist will perform music and sign books on Saturday, August 2 from 6:00 - 9:00 PM. A veteran of celebrated alternative rock band Low (recently featured at the Sub Pop 20 shindig), Sally is the creator of acclaimed comics Recidivist and Sammy the Mouse, as well as publisher of independent La Mano books. Sally’s work also appears regularly in Fantagraphics Books' highly regarded MOME anthology. This event will feature the debut of the second issue of his Sammy the Mouse comic book published on Fantagraphics Books' international Ignatz imprint. Sally will perform music with his associate Nate Denver and special guests. Denver is author of the amazing Wait, You're Not a Centaur book/CD, and performs with Nate Denver's Neck and Total Shutdown. The event will also offer the public an opportunity to preview the first U. S. exhibition of original art by French cartoonist David B.
Best known by his pseudonym David B., Peirre-François Beauchard is one of the prominent artists of the bande dessinée, a genre whose style and standing he has greatly advanced. The exhibition “My Story, My Stories” includes original art from his critically acclaimed comic memoir “l’Ascension du Haut Mal” (published in English as Epileptic), contributions to Fantagraphics Books’ MOME anthology, works from his Ignatz series Babel, and many pieces previously unpublished in the U. S. This exquisite exhibition runs from August 2 through August 25, 2008. Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery will host a reception for this exceptional artist on Friday, August 15 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. This event is associated with "La Semaine de la Bande Dessinée - A Week Celebrating the French Graphic Novel," supported by Fantagraphics Books, the 4Culture King County Lodging Tax, the Alliance Française of Seattle and the Cultural Development Fund of the Federation of Alliances Françaises USA.
On Friday, August 29, Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery proudly presents the return of Daniel Clowes. His appearance marks the premiere of Ghost World: The Special Edition. The second in a series of deluxe publications from Fantagraphics Books, this edition of the phenomenal graphic novel includes special features available for the first time. Ghost World first appeared in Clowes’ award-winning Eightball comic book series, and the feature film, directed by Terry Zwigoff, earned the pair an Academy Award™ nomination for Best Screenplay adaptation. This event will feature an exhibition of Clowes’ meticulously rendered original graphics related to the book, as well as a brief discussion of the artists’ cinematic approach to cartooning. GEORGETOWN SECOND SATURDAY ART ATTACK ON JUNE 14!
Adventurous Seattle art enthusiasts are invited to celebrate the arrival of summer at the Georgetown Second Saturday Art Attack on Saturday, June 14 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. In only its fifth installment, the Georgetown Art Attack has established itself as one of the region’'s most colorful cultural outings. The June 14 event features an impressive array of exceptional local, national and international artists in a variety of disciplines.
Among the many highlights:
The Seattle debut of photographs by Johanna Breiding of Zurich, Switzerland at Bella Vitale Studios. Her arresting images of abandoned European architectural environments can be previewed at: www.johannabreiding.ch/index.html.
A multimedia presentation, “Accidents Will Happen,” at Belle & Wissell. This exhibition is organized by Gabe Kean of Born Magazine and Georgetown Records'’ Marq Dean, with EMP curator Jacob MacMurray and photographer Curt Doughty. The show examines the evolution of music photography in the Northwest through film, photographs and digital media. Featured artists include Seattle'’s legendary seminal rock photographer Jini Dellaccio, as well as current masters on the genre Charles Peterson, Lance Mercer, David Belisle, Morgan Keuler, and others.
“Carnaval de Monstruos,” Bruce Christian Andersen’'s show of recent figurative ceramics and banner paintings by at Georgetown Tile Works —– a three-dimensional retrospective of some of the most unusual and fascinating midway performers of the early 1900's.
A display of power tool racers by Georgetown’'s provocative collective Hazard Factory and a performance by musician Anna Coogan at Full Throttle Bottles; Rebecca Bolte’'s work in music photography and album art at Bolte Creative; boisterous drinking, delicious dining, and exotic shopping experiences at over 30 locations throughout Seattle’'s historic Georgetown business district.

Georgetown Second Saturday Art Attack Spring Offensive Continues with a Blast on Saturday, May10 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM
Seattle's liveliest cultural adventure continues with the May 10 installment of the Georgetown Second Saturday Art Attack. This monthly event, a production of the Georgetown Merchants Association, is intended to draw attention to the creative industrial arts district of Georgetown in an effort to foment public sentiment in favor of preserving this historic civic asset. More than 50 galleries, nightclubs, boutiques, studios, and individual artists participate in this colorful celebration of aesthetic diversity.
Coinciding with the Art Attack is the first exhibition of Georgetown Independent Artists in the Engine Room of the enchanting old brewery building. Organized by painter John Ohannesian, the show features recent work by Augie Pagan, Doug Parry, Diana Pharoah, Angielena Chamberlain, Dave Mazak, Steve Wright, Mike Poetzel, Dave McGranaghan, Lance Mercer and many others. While these artists frequently exhibit throughout the region, this exhibition acknowledges the fierce independence of Georgetown's working artists, who largely reject the stifling restrictions imposed by traditional gallery representation. Other highlights include: We Make Our Own Luck, mixed media encaustic paintings by Joseph Wackerman at Georgetown Tile Works; an exhibition of illustrations and prints by Los Angeles artist Jordan Crane at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery; Georgetown artist Sherri Scott at George; musician Anna Coogan performing at Full Throttle Bottles; free musical performances at neighborhood nightclubs; exotic dining, drinking and shopping experiences in the charming Bohemian enclave of Georgetown.
