Jocks and art nerds unite over the awesomeness of these Nike t-shirts, as designed by our own Ron Regé, Jr!
As Ron explains over Facebook, he did these drawings back in 2009, and never knew what they had done with them until now! The shirts don't seem to be available directly from the Nike website (believe me, I looked!), but you can findthemoneBay. (cough)
Swoon, just look at that stunning lettering! It almost makes me want to work out! (But not really.)
On January 7th, our friends at the Society of Illustrators launched the wonderful new exhibit, The Art of Rodrigues: An Exhibition of the Late, Great Charles Rodrigues!
Stop by and marvel at artwork by Charles Rodrigues, the sick mind behind some of the most outrageous, inventive, and offensive cartoons ever to appear in mass circulation magazines, including Stereo Review, Playboy, and (from its very first issue) the National Lampoon.
They'll be hosting a Happy Hour and Reception for the exhibit on Wednesday, January 29th from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. A $10 cover charge includes one free drink ticket, buffet included.
Come celebrate the beautiful new graphic novel from Portland-based artist Julia Gfrörer. Called “moving” by The Comics Journal, Black is the Color is the sorrowful tale of an unfortunate sailor’s abandonment, and his melancholy meeting of a mermaid named Eulalia.
Come meet the artist noneother than Phoebe Gloeckner has called, "amongst the most promising artist/authors of her generation. Her work is spare and elegant, yet the hand of the artist is always evident in her line. Her characters inhabit cold or desolate environments, often on the brink of inanition or beyond, yet still yearning to love and be loved."
Escape a bleak winter chill for a night of comic shop talk beginning at 7:00 PM! You can either buy the book from The Strand or buy a $15 Strand Gift Card in order to attend this event. Both options admit one. Please note that payment is required for all online event orders at the time of checkout. The event will be located in The Strand's 3rd floor Rare Book Room at 828 Broadway at 12th Street.
WHOA. Feast your eyes at this exquisite original artwork from Ron Regé, Jr. As Ron explains on his Tumblr, "I've made 2 of these large fold-out drawings on that red dropcloth kraft paper stuff. I'm gonna put them in plastic envelopes and let people check them out at my Cartoon Utopiashow at The Fantagraphics Bookstore in Seattle next week."

Join Pony Club Gallery tonight from 6:00 to 10:00 PM for the opening reception of The Art of Couch Tag, an exhibit of original pages from his outstanding tragicomic graphic memoir, Couch Tag. I dearly hope there will be pages from the piece "Thirteen Cats" (featured in The Best American Comics).

Well, frankly, these stories must be told every-damn-where! But, starting January 16th, 2014, the Rutgers-Camden’s Stedman Gallery will become a haven for artists displaying comix versions of their life stories through a marriage of drawings to text.
Such as Carol Tyler, who shares on her blog that some pages of original art, including a few from You'll Never Know, will be on display! (She also shares that "Mr. Compulsive Narrative himself Justin Green shares some original Binky Brown pages," adding, "that alone is worth the effort to go see this exhibit.")
Original pages will also be on display from Ellen Forney, Julie Doucet, David Small, Gilad Seliktar, and many, many more!
