The venerable Inkstuds internet radio program kicks off a month-long focus on Canadian cartoonists by interviewing Hall of Best Knowledge and Mome cartoonist Ray Fenwick.

Two Midwest exhibits

The Daily Cross Hatch has word on "Zines of the Cities," a great-looking retrospective of Minneapolis/Saint Paul zines now on display at the Stevens Square Center for the Arts gallery (1905 3rd Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55404), featuring work by Zak Sally and Mr. Mike (no relation) among many others.

And the Star Clipper Blog clues us in to the Mad Magazine Exhibit, currently on display at the St. Louis Artists' Guild in Clayton, MO. It's not stated which artists are included in the exhibit (Kurtzman? Elder?) or even what era, if any, the exhibit focuses on, but admission is free so it won't cost you nothin' to find out.

Bagge in Portland OR, TONIGHT & this weekend

Peter Bagge writes and sez:

It'll be an event-clogged weekend in PDX for me this upcoming weekend, all revolving around a 2 day, all-day teaching seminar I'll be holding at the Portland Northwest College of Art on Sat, June 28th and Sun. June 29th (Jessica Abel, Matt Madden and Daniel Dufford will be teaching courses there all this week as well).

I also will be signing copies of the APOCALYPSE NERD book collection at Powell's bookstore on Friday the 27th at 7:30 PM.

On Saturday the 28th at 5pm, I'm scheduled to take part in an "Interactive discussion with comic creators" at the Someday Lounge, though no mention of it is made on their website so attend at your own risk!

Right after that, from 7 - 9 pm, the nearby Floating World comic shop will be holding a "closing" party for a group art show featuring work by JR Williams, Mats?!, David Chelsea and myself (we'll all be in attendance except for Mats?!). Floating World's website appears to be down at the moment, but you can get all the info you need from their MySpace Page.

David B. coming to Seattle

The Summer 2008 issue of Art Source, the newsletter of the Seattle-based arts organization the Artist Trust, contains a feature article by curator Cynthia Rose (read a preview on the Artist Trust website) which profiles Epileptic/Babel creator David B. and highlights his upcoming visit to Seattle in mid-August, which is co-sponsored by the Alliance Française de Seattle and includes, of course, a stop and art show at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery. Stay tuned for our complete announcement with all the details of this exciting multi-day celebration of bandes desinées, which will also include a talk given by our own Kim Thompson, a screening of Tintin et Moi at the Northwest Film Forum, and a panel discussion with David B., Jim Woodring, Peter Bagge and Joe Sacco at the Henry Art Museum.
