"I'm so excited by Fantagraphics bringing us a complete version of witzend... That's a bunch of interesting cartoonists doing work at the far frontier of their creative impulses that weren't given that opportunity a whole lot." – Tom Spurgeon, The Comics Reporter

"Witzend is a gem." – iFanboy

"[Witzend's] salient point, that comic artists were entitled to more control and ownership of their own work, would eventually be recognized by the publishers of comic books, but it is hard to argue that witzend itself was a key factor in that development. Like so many other visionary endeavors, it may simply have been ahead of its time." – Rick Spanier

"Wally Wood is one of the best comic book artists that ever lived." – Mark Frauenfelder, Boing Boing

by Peter Bagge

144-page full-color 6" x 9" softcover • $19.99
ISBN: 978-1-60699-745-1

"Pete Bagge created a generational icon who I grew up with, and continued to grow up with even after I was a grown up. This book collects the last thirteen years of Buddy's life - and keeping up with him is like keeping up with an old pal from college who, while you still don't see them as often, you still miss dearly, and are always surprised at how much your life and theirs still overlap." -Benn Ray, Atomic Books

"[Buddy Bradley] attacks modern, and more adult-oriented, social trends-MILFs, recessions, mortality-with the same critical skill and wit he brought to the grunge era. For those of us who've accepted these stories piecemeal over the past dozen years, it's nice to seem them joined together." –Christopher Arnott, Below the Fold

Here's a clearer view of the box art for The EC Comics Slipcase Vol. 1, coming in April, featuring the artwork of Jack DavisHarvey KurtzmanAl Williamson, and Wallace Wood on the outside and their respective EC Comics Library volumes inside. Nice, right? That's gold ink on there, as befitting the quality of the material inside and the luster of our unique and impeccable presentation.

For those of you who plan on replacing your standalone copies of each book with the box set (since we're not able to offer empty boxes), might we suggest "paying it forward" by donating your duplicate books to a good cause such as your local library, or passing them along as gifts? The printer sent us this handmade sample of our 4-volume EC Comics Slipcase Vol. 1 (which contains Corpse on the ImjinCame the Dawn50 Girls 50 and 'Tain't the Meat... It's the Humanity!) for our inspection. We caught one design error (first person to spot it gets a no-prize), which we fixed, and now the boxes are getting printed up, the sets will be assembled & shrinkwrapped, and the whole shebang will hit shelves in April. Pretty darn handsome, huh? It's a good deal, too, saving you over $20 versus buying the volumes separately and sans box. (Sorry, we're not going to be able to offer empty slipcases.) Hey, why not pre-order one for yourself or a favorite person?

Judgment Day prelim cover

Judgment Day and Other Stories (The EC Comics Library)
by Joe OrlandoAl Feldstein, Ray Bradbury et al.

184-page black & white 7.25" x 10.25" hardcover • $28.99
ISBN: 978-1-60699-727-7

EC Comics LogoJoe Orlando was a mainstay at EC, especially on science fiction, and this collects 23 of his best sci-fi stories. All of them, most scripted by Al Feldstein, serve up classic O. Henry-style endings, such as “I, Robot,” and “Fallen Idol.” The title story is one of EC’s most famous, with its blunt anti-racism message. When it was printed during the era of the Comics Code, publisher Bill Gaines and Feldstein had to fight to keep the story’s final panel “reveal” (and thus its whole point) intact. It was a pyrrhic victory, however, as “Judgment Day” became the last story in the last comic book EC published. This volume also features two of Orlando’s outstanding adaptations of classic Ray Bradbury science-fiction stories: “The Long Year” and “Outcast of the Stars.” Also included are all of EC’s “Adam Link” adaptations, a series which was later adapted for The Outer Limits TV show featuring Leonard Nimoy.
