Enjoy "Good Grief: The Story of Peanuts " , a half-hour BBC Radio 4 audio documentary on Charles M. Schulz and Peanuts , hosted by Pete Paphides, who talks to Jean Schulz and members of Schulz's family as well as fans like Chris Ware , Chip Kidd and Russell T. Davies, interspersed with vintage clips of Schulz himself and audio from the Peanuts TV specials. (Via Bleeding Cool .)
Our warehouse manager and poet-in-residence Nico Vassilakis would like to share this recent blog post by Matt Madden examining seemingly (or actually) incongruous juxtapositions of text and image in comics, using the work of Chris Ware , Ben Katchor, and, of primary interest to Nico, practitioner/progenitor of the Flarf school of poetry Gary Sullivan (seen above) as examples. Thought-provoking stuff!
Thank you, Chris Ware .
This, the penultimate KRAZY + IGNATZ Sundays volume (covering 1919-1921), will be available in February 2011. We should be able to wrap up the series with the 1922-1924 volume by the end of that year, leaving us free to focus on... the dailies!
Here's a great resource I hadn't come across before: The Acme Novelty Archive , a slightly obsessive and quite nicely designed repository of the work of Chris Ware , compiled and presented by Adam Kempa.
Your cautionary tale of the day , from the New York Times.
Speaking of Rusty, if you're in NYC, don't miss Chris Ware 's art show opening this Thursday, Sept. 16, at the Adam Baumgold Gallery .
This photo of original art for a 1988 collaborative strip from The Daily Texan by Chris Ware and Bart Farar was recently posted on Flickr by Domy Books . See it in more detail here .
Due to an inventory error we have 20 copies of the thought-to-be-sold-out Acme Novelty Library #12 by Chris Ware available to order at the cover price of $4.50! It's a 32-page full color 7.25" x 6" comic book.
[UPDATE: Whoa there, they went fast! All gone now, sorry!]
Who wrote this promo copy? It is magnificent:
Loyal Acme readers who were disgruntled at the previous two issues, in which THINGS ACTUALLY HAPPENED (time shifts, sex, dream sequences, super-heroes, death, maiming, architecture — my God, it was like Bob Dylan going electric all over again) will be delighted to discover that this chapter of the Jimmy Corrigan saga returns to the mind-numbingly claustrophobic eventlessness that distinguished earlier issues (such as the acclaimed, award-losing "32-pages-all-in-one-room" #9). In this issue Jimmy and his dad have lunch! In a diner! For the whole issue! Except in one sequence they walk outside! To talk to an old guy! Then they go back to his dad's apartment! Trust us, after you read this little gem, My Dinner with Andre will look like The Road Warrior by comparison.
Via multiple sources originating with Milo George comes word that Daniel Raeburn has put all 4 issues of his seminal zine The Imp online for free download . With issues on Daniel Clowes , Jack Chick, Chris Ware and Mexican pulp comics, this highly influential publication left behind quite a legacy.
Mark your calendars and buy your advance tickets now: The Book Table presents an evening with Charles Burns & Chris Ware on Tuesday, November 2nd at 7:30 PM at the Unity Temple in Oak Park, Illinois. Click here for all the details and to pre-order tickets. (Hat tip to Sandy Bilus .)
