There'll be a little more catch-up tomorrow:
• Flog commenter "Faraquet" points out this 2001 Dutch TV interview with Daniel Clowes (via this blog) and says "It's very weird" (having watched the first few minutes we're going to say it's the background music that gives that impression)
• I'm pretty sure I've seen this circulate on the blogosphere before, but: Tim Hensley presents The World's Weirdest Comics Jam
Daniel Clowes fan Matt Taylor dressed up as the Death Ray from Eightball #23 for Halloween and documented the creation of the costume on his blog. Nicely done!
• Look, a groovy mid-'90s Fantagraphics house ad from J.R. Williams
• Link of the Month and Possibly the Year: "The book seems to have been done tongue in cheek... However I am posting this as serious as I want as many as possible to avoid this time in Earth's history."
Mike Baehr, Janice Headley and I are headed down Friday for this weekend's Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco, and we will be bringing along about 150 comics and books for you to browse and get signed all weekend long by our amazing line-up of attending authors:
11AM Johnny Ryan
11AM Megan Kelso & Kevin Huizenga
Meanwhile, Jordan Crane, Esther Pearl Watson, Chris Ware (yes, Chris Ware!), and others will also be appearing at the show. How can you miss it? It runs 11 to 7 Saturday and 11 to 6 Sunday.
UCB’s PACIFIC FILM ARCHIVE HOSTS GHOST WORLD SCREENING AND BOOK RELEASE PARTY
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2008 at 6:30 p.m.
2625 Durant Avenue #2250 • Berkeley, CA 94720 • (510) 642-1124
Clowes and Zwigoff will host a special screening of the Ghost World film, followed by a Q&A and book signing to celebrate the release of Ghost World: Special Edition.
This deluxe new edition of the bestselling graphic novel expands the original book — which tells the story of two best friends, Enid and Rebecca, facing the prospect of growing up and apart — from 80 pages into a 288 page, behind-the-scenes tour through the making of both the classic book and the subsequent hit film. Including a new introduction and several pages of new strips by Clowes, as well as over 200 pages of "extras": the Oscar-nominated screenplay by Clowes and Terry Zwigoff, dozens of pages of never-before-collected ephemera, including unused concept drawings, notes, movie posters, foreign edition covers, merchandise, and much more, all annotated by Clowes. Truly lavish, definitive and comprehensive.
"I really identified with the girls in Ghost World. They made me feel like I wasn't so alone." – Lisa Simpson, The Simpsons
