Clowes covers New Yorker
Written by Eric Reynolds | Filed under Daniel Clowes 7 May 2008 11:58 AM

Well, this was long overdue! Daniel Clowes contributes not one, but TWO covers to this week's New Yorker magazine. Speaking of Daniel, the eagerly-anticipated Ghost World Special Edition is in da house and will debut Labor Day Weekend at our Bookstore & Gallery in Seattle, along with a Ghost World exhibition and signing by Clowes! Details to come later this summer...

Touch World

I was really hoping this was a review of a porno adaptation of Ghost World. "In short, Touch World is a pile like life."
Whoa.

Sketchbook #1
Written by Eric Reynolds | Filed under Daniel Clowesart 29 Mar 2008 6:50 PM

The first in series. I'm gonna post a page from my 'con' sketchbook approximately every day until I'm done (it'll take a few months). I hope this doesn't seem too self-serving, I'm really thinking some of you will enjoy these. And this way if my house ever burns down they will live on. Here's the very first, by Daniel Clowes:

Modern Cartoonist is back

Modern Cartoonist by Daniel Clowes

We temporarily removed Dan Clowes's "Modern Cartoonist" essay from the website in order to bring it to you in its full, hand-lettered, illustrated splendor. Now it's back!

David Boring Wears Chocolate

Our pal Rebecca Rosen from Drawn & Quarterly sent us these pictures from a mall in Bizarro World (a.k.a. Hong Kong). If there are any more Flog readers out there in Hong Kong, send more pictures! Rebecca took all she could: "Sorry I didn't get a better shot of the panel display....That last kind of blurry shot? That's when the security guard began loudly reprimanding me in Cantonese for illegally taking pictures in a mall."

From Variety: "To learn how to format a screenplay, [Diablo] Cody picked up a shooting script for Daniel Clowes and Terry Zwigoff's Ghost World at a local bookstore."
Original Clowes Art Going Fast

I wouldn't normally recommend buying original art off Ebay rather than through the artist but, then, it's not often you get the chance to buy early Dan Clowes pages... You only have a few hours!

1st look at Ghost World Special Ed. cover
Written by Eric Reynolds | Filed under Daniel Clowes 16 Feb 2008 6:06 PM

Here's the first look at the forthcoming Ghost World Special Edition cover by Daniel Clowes. This jpg won't do the book justice: it's a deluxe hardcover with silver ink and spot varnish and perhaps some slight tweaking still to come by Mr. Clowes. The book is going to be amazing, in the vein of the impeccable Palestine Special Edition, though with even more uncollected material than that book. Weighing in at nearly 300 pages, it includes the original classic graphic novel, the Academy Award-nominated screenplay, and almost 50 pages of supplementary material never before collected, including several new strips created for the book, a new introduction and annotations to the graphic novel by Clowes, as well as a comprehensive retrospective of every piece of GW artwork and merchandise related to the book and film.

We'll preview more soon; expect book to be in stores by early summer.
