Written by Mike Baehr | Filed under Fantagraphics BookstoreeventsDaniel Clowes 2 Sep 2008 12:29 PM

Our shutterbug pal Steve Sampson has a great set of photos from our Daniel Clowes signing last Friday; browse through thumbnails here or watch the slideshow below (slideshow link). Stay tuned in the near future for a link to Steve's great shots from last month's David B./Alliance Française events as well.

Behold a host of images, moving and still, from Daniel Clowes' visit to Seattle this past weekend. First up, the opening of the Ghost World exhibit at the Fantagraphics Bookstore (click here if the slideshow doesn't appear below):

Here's a snippet of the Q&A with Gary Groth and Dan at the exhibit opening (video link):

And here's the "Comix Sub-Heroes" panel discussion with Dan and Adrian Tomine, moderated by Ivan Brunetti, at the Bumbershoot festival (slideshow link):

I'll let the images speak for themselves except to say that everybody and everything was delightful and wonderful. I've said this before, but it bears repeating: what a great month it's been to be a graphic novel fan in Seattle.

La Semaine est finie
Written by Mike Baehr | Filed under Fantagraphics BookstoreeventsDavid B 18 Aug 2008 5:56 AM

"La Semaine de la Bande Dessinée - A Week Celebrating the French Graphic Novel" is now over and was a rousing success by any measure. We have many photographs from the events to browse, from Wednesday's opening lecture by Kim Thompson (previously posted); Friday's opening of the David B. "My Story, My Stories" exhibit and book signing at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery:

David B.

...Saturday's David B. discussion at Seattle Central Library:

David B. slideshow talk at Seattle Central Library, 08/16/08

...and Sunday's "Romans Graphiques Meet the Graphic Novel" panel discussion at the Henry Art Gallery with panelists (L to R) Peter Bagge, David B., moderator Kim Thompson, and Jim Woodring:

David B. super-fan Karl Dotter, a.k.a. k4rl on Flickr, flew up from San Francisco for the events and has a bunch more photos and a few video clips:

Photographer Steve Sampson of the Alliance Française also took many, many great photos over the week; we'll be sure to post a link when they're up on the Alliance's website. And we recorded audio at all these events (and the Library is going to be podcasting theirs), so we should be able to bring you MP3s and possibly some multimedia in the near future.

Special thanks to all of the individuals and organizations who worked so hard to put together this fantastic week of events, and of course to the gracious and phenomenally talented David B. for making the journey, tirelessly signing and sketching, and providing such fascinating discussion. It's a great month to be a graphic novel fan in Seattle.

Zak Sally & Nate Denver rock the comic shop
Written by Mike Baehr | Filed under Zak SallyvideoFantagraphics Bookstoreevents 3 Aug 2008 6:55 PM

If you couldn't make it to the Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery last night to see Zak Sally and Nate Denver perform, here's a little taste of what you missed: above, Zak plays "My Secret World" from his unreleased solo album Fear of Song. Nate won the crowd over with songs like "Snuggle Tummy" and "4 Horsemen," his tribute to Slayer, while Zak electrified with acoustic versions of his solo songs and a Beat Happening cover to close out the evening. Comics were signed, books on Zak's excellent La Mano imprint were sold, the amazing David B. exhibit "My Story, My Stories" was on display, and much fun was had by all. Click here for more photos.

UPDATE: Check out more photos from our own Eric and Janice.
