Buddy Buys a Dump
Buddy Buys a Dump: The Complete Buddy Bradley Stories from "Hate" Comics Vol. 3
by Peter Bagge

144-page full-color 6" x 9" softcover • $19.99
ISBN: 978-1-60699-745-1

"Pete Bagge created a generational icon who I grew up with, and continued to grow up with even after I was a grown up. This book collects the last thirteen years of Buddy's life - and keeping up with him is like keeping up with an old pal from college who, while you still don't see them as often, you still miss dearly, and are always surprised at how much your life and theirs still overlap." -Benn Ray, Atomic Books

"[Buddy Bradley] attacks modern, and more adult-oriented, social trends-MILFs, recessions, mortality-with the same critical skill and wit he brought to the grunge era. For those of us who've accepted these stories piecemeal over the past dozen years, it's nice to seem them joined together." –Christopher Arnott, Below the Fold

The Love Bunglers
The Love Bunglers
by Jaime Hernandez

112-page black & white 9" x 11.25" hardcover • $19.99
ISBN: 978-1-60699-729-1

"...it's maybe the best comic I've read all decade...A beautiful, humane, masterfully executed comic." –Tom Spurgeon, Comics Reporter

"Being a collected edition of Jaime Hernandez's hugely-appreciated climax-of-sorts to his ongoing chronicles of erstwhile romantics Maggie and Ray...IT'S THE SEASON FINALE OF LOVE AND ROCKETS." –Joe McCulloch, The Comics Journal

"Love Bunglers is the comics medium perfected." –Benn Ray, Atomic Books
Unlovable 3

by Esther Pearl Watson

412-page two-color 5.75" x 5.75" hardcover • $29.99
ISBN: 978-1-60699-737-6

"This is a must read for all Tina Belcher fans. This is also a must read for anyone who likes fun!" –Forbidden Planet USA

"Esther Pearl Watson has built up a nice following for these teenage comedy/agony vignettes, counting Matt Groening and Pendleton Ward among their admirers.…Lots of visceral drawing in here, all up in everyone's face." -Joe McCulloch, The Comics Journal

832-page four-volume hardcover 7.5" x 10.5" x 4" slipcased box set • $94.99
ISBN: 978-1-60699-728-4

"I'm kind of hooked on the black and white author-oriented Fantagraphics volumes because they force me to reconsider artists that I power past when they're collected in a format resembling the original comics..."  –Tom Spurgeon, Comics Reporter

Bomb Run and Other Stories (The EC Comics Library)
by John Severin, Harvey Kurtzman, Will Elder et al.

264-page black & white 7.25" x 10.25" hardcover • $29.99
ISBN: 978-1-60699-749-9

Ships in: June 2014 (subject to change) — Pre-Order Now

The team of Harvey Kurtzman and John Severin was one of the most fruitful collaborations in the history of comics. The work they did combines the taut emotional and psychological insights of Stephen Crane with a verisimilitude so gritty that it seems as if they are reporting from the scene. Together with inker and friend Will Elder, whose own obsession for detail perfectly heightened the impact of every line, they produced 34 war stories — emotionally draining and dramatically eloquent — in just under three years. This book collects them all. Settings include: the Roman empire; the Revolutionary War; the American-Indian Wars; the Alamo; the Civil War; World War I (in the trenches and in the air); World War II (in the Pacific and in Europe, including the D-Day invasion); and the Korean War.

"The minute you looked at his artwork you knew you were looking at a John Severin illustration; it could be no one else. Besides his inimitable style, there was a feeling of total authenticity to whatever he drew, whether it was a Western, a crime story, a superhero saga or a science fiction yarn." – Stan Lee

Mankind's long history of armed conflict has inspired some of the greatest creative work in every art form. Case in point: the inspired and justly revered war stories published by EC Comics. Some of the finest of that material came from the typewriter of Harvey Kurtzman, the pencil of John Severin, and (often) the pen and brush of Will Elder — comics legends all, and a dream team of creators if there ever was one. Bomb Run and Other Stories collects all of this work, gathered in a single volume for the first time, under the cover you see above, in glorious black and white.

The appearance of advance copies on our desks means that the book is about 2 months from hitting shelves; reserve your copy by pre-ordering today!

Fantagraphics at the 2014 Asbury Park Comicon!
Written by janice headley | Filed under Peter BaggeMiss Lasko-GrossHarvey KurtzmaneventsCharles ForsmanBob Fingerman 11 Mar 2014 10:39 AM

Yo, Jersey! Several Fantagraphics artists will be guests of honor at the 2014 Asbury Park Comicon on Saturday, April 12th and Sunday, April 13th!

This year's special guests include Peter Bagge, Bob Fingerman, Charles Forsman, and Miss Lasko-Gross, among many others, but these are clearly the best.

Not only can you get your books signed by these folks, but you can also catch some panels throughout the weekend, particularly on Saturday, on the lower level of the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel. Such as:

Saturday

•  1:00 PM // The World of Harvey Kurtzman: Denis Kitchen on the life and art of the incredible Harvey Kurtzman, creator of Mad magazine, Little Annie Fannie, Frontline Combat, Help Magazine and much more.

•  4:00 PM // The Neat Stuff in Mind of Peter Bagge: Funny book creator Peter Bagge in conversation with Jon B. Cooke.

There's some other panels, but y'know, those are clearly the best.

And, just when you think it can't get better: performing at the Comicon After-Party on Saturday night, it's The Julie Ruin, a project from Kathleen Hanna, former lead singer of Bikini Kill and Le Tigre! Holy crap!

The Asbury Park Comicon runs from 10 AM to 6 PM each day at the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel, located at 1401 Ocean Blvd. Visit their website for travel help, including the tip: "Have some self-respect -- don't take the bus."

Bomb Run and Other Stories (The EC Comics Library) by John Severin - Excerpt
Written by Mike Baehr | Filed under Will ElderpreviewsJohn SeverinHarvey KurtzmanEC ComicsComing Attractions 13 Feb 2014 12:50 PM

Harvey Kurtzman's taut, humanistic scripts and John Severin's gritty, detailed artwork (inked with preternatural precision, usually by Will Elder) combined to make some of the finest war stories ever told in any medium in the pages of EC Comics. Bomb Run and Other Stories collects all of this essential work in one hardcover volume for the first time.

Our downloadable excerpt comes complete with the Table of Contents and three full stories: the centuries-spanning "How They Die!"; the cautionary WWII tale "Weak Link!"; and the high-flying, Greek myth-inspired title story. Originally on the calendar for July, we wrapped this one a little early, so it might move up on the schedule. Either way, you can pre-order your copy right now and be among the first to get a copy (and combine it with the upcoming Joe Orlando volume Judgment Day for 20% savings!).
