Flog Giveaway: Jason Lettering!
Written by Jacob Covey | Filed under Jasonart 3 Mar 2008 10:19 AM

While we were putting together his upcoming release, Pocket Full of Rain, Jason sent over this small swatch of lettering-- the title of a single page story in the book.

He has given his blessing to give away this tiny treasure to the first Flog reader to post in the comments board. I'm not going to get clever and ask you to answer any questions, just be a fan. Leave a contact email address and I'll write you.

Approx. 2.75" x 4" on what I'm sure is non-archival copy paper. Touched by Kim Thompson and myself only. Insurance value: $400,000.00.

Low Moon, Part 1

Yesterday saw the debut of the latest New York Times comic strip, LOW MOON by Jason! Huzzah! And it's a decaffeinated Western, no less.

At the Thought Balloonists blog, Craig Fischer offers an in-depth analysis of Thierry Groensteen's theories of comics semiotics and structure, using this page from Jason's (out of print) graphic novel Hey, Wait... as an example:

Now in stock: The Last Musketeer by Jason

The Last Musketeer
By Jason

After his existential thriller (Why Are You Doing This?), his Parisian famous-writers crime caper (The Left Bank Gang), and his time-travel story (I Killed Adolf Hitler), Jason's fourth full-color album may feature his loopiest premise yet. Set in the present time, The Last Musketeer stars the by-now centuries old musketeer Athos, who has been reduced to a suavely dressed but useless near-panhandler trading on his now almost extinct fame. All this changes when one day the Martians attack Earth. Suddenly there is a need for swashes to be buckled, and Athos leaps back into the fray with a vengeance. The Last Musketeer is a vintage sci-fi adventure with a unique twist from an internationally acclaimed cartoonist.

Jason previewed
Written by Eric Reynolds | Filed under previewsJason 27 Nov 2007 6:59 AM

The First Post excerpts Jason's latest comic masterpiece, the graphic novella I Killed Adolf Hitler. This is one of my favorite Jason books yet, a genre-bending time travel story that is a masterpiece of economy. Jason gets in and gets out like nobody's business. No chicken fat here. Read these first ten pages and see for yourself.

Kudos for I Killed Adolf Hitler

Publishers Weekly has named Jason's I Killed Adolf Hitler to their Best Books of 2007 list. They say:

"Hard-boiled hit men, a time machine and a quest to save the world add up to a story about the permanence of love in this darkly humorous tale."

Also on the list: Sherman Alexie's The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, illustrated by our pal Ellen Forney, who is called out for her "witty cartoons."

Congratulations to all!
