Things I Learned from Tom Spurgeon This Week
Written by Eric Reynolds | Filed under Tony MillionaireRobert CrumbRick AltergottJim BlanchardHumbugHarvey KurtzmanDennis the MenaceDash ShawBob Levin 23 Oct 2008 9:45 AM

• Dash Shaw and Tony Millionaire are amongst the the official selections from which the the Festival International de la BD Angouleme main prizes will be drawn from at January's festival. That is very cool.

• Joey Anuff has justified the Internet's existence.

• Charles Crumb, who passed away 14 years ago, is gone but not forgotten

• Rudy Ray Moore is not so far removed from the realm of this blog that it would be inappropriate to lament his passing here. R.I.P., R.R.M. A tip of the fur bucket to Rick Altergott and Jim Blanchard, who first introduced me to Petey Wheatstraw: The Devil's Son-In-Law.

• Dennis the Menace cartoonist Marcus Hamilton is a thankful man

• Bob Levin's blog is always worth reading.

Jim Blanchard interviewed
Written by Eric Reynolds | Filed under Jim Blanchard 9 Jul 2008 2:54 PM

I enjoyed this interview with my old pal Jim Blanchard; it was one of the more nuts and bolts interviews with Jim that I've read. And plus you get to look at shit like this:

There's even scans of original art that Jim owns, from Clowes to Altergott. Oh, and that's a Billy Joe Shaver portrait by Jim, above.

Fantagraphics was in full effect at the 2008 Stumptown Comics Fest. Your humble reporter was only there for Saturday of the two-day event, but had a smashing time (and went 200% over budget buying comics, art & t-shirts — yikes). Here's a brief video clip of our table:

Here's a few pics of the walls of Seattle's Tigertail, which currently are hosting a lovely Jim Blanchard exhibition...

Strange deck
Written by Eric Reynolds | Filed under Tony MillionaireJim BlanchardEllen ForneyCharles Burns 8 Jan 2008 8:39 PM

I like to play cards, so I was stoked to get this set from our pals at The Stranger. It instantly vaults past the nudie deck as my favorite. Each card features a classic cover from Strangers past, and they've had some great ones, including a bunch by Fantagraphics-published cartoonists like Jim Blanchard (who is featured on three cards, I think more than anyone), Ellen Forney, Jeremy Eaton, Charles Burns (colored by yours truly, coincidentally), and Tony Millionaire. I have no idea how to get this or if it's even for sale, so good luck. And neener-neener.
Jim's Info Barn open for business

Come on down to JIM's INFO BARN, the new blog from artist Jim Blanchard. I particularly enjoyed the panoramic photo of his studio: if you check it out, be sure to look for the reflection of Jim's face in the mirror. I laughed.

Following a phenomenally successful first year, it's party time at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery in Georgetown. On Saturday, December 8 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Fantagraphics commemorates this auspicious occasion with music, author appearances, a continuing display of Peanuts strips by Charles M.
