Heads or Tails by Lilli Carré

Pretty book alert! The first bound copy of Lilli Carré's story collection Heads or Tails showed up at the office late last week. It's a gorgeous package containing Lilli's short stories from Mome and elsewhere, along with new material. With a unique visual style and a literary, poetic storytelling sensibility, along with an experimental streak informed by her work in illustration and animation, Lilli is a singular young talent and we're thrilled to be collecting her comics work. The book is due in early November, give or take. Stay tuned for more previews & sneak peeks; learn more about the book and pre-order a copy (with a money-saving offer on Lilli's acclaimed 2008 debut The Lagoon) here.

A "moving hold" is an animation technique that involves cycling several drawings of a stationary character, giving the drawn lines a sense of vibration and energy. And it's also the title of the Lilli Carré exhibit opening in Chicago this week!

Moving Holds opens this Friday, April 20th at Western Exhibitions. For the show, Carré has created three different sets of work that all incorporate moving holds, as an idea, a technique, or both. Don't miss the opening reception from 5:00 to 8:00 PM this Friday!

Western Exhibitions is located at 119 N Peoria St, 2A, in Chicago, IL.  Moving Holds runs through May 19, 2012.

Here comes Trubble Club #5

Trubble Club #5

You know, Trubble Club, the weird and wonderful jam comics produced by a Chicago-centric collective of the same name that includes Fanta-family folks Lilli Carré, Laura Park and Jeremy Tinder among many others. After 4 minicomic collections they've put together a doozy of a package for Vol. 5: a full-color Sunday funnies-style newspaper of all-new strips. They've brought in a few ringers to participate in addition to their regulars, AND it comes with a silkscreen print. You can buy a copy for 8 bucks from The Post Family online shop. Chicagoans can buy it at Quimby's. I got my order in... now I just need #4 to complete my collection.
