A "moving hold" is an animation technique that involves cycling several drawings of a stationary character, giving the drawn lines a sense of vibration and energy. And it's also the title of the Lilli Carré exhibit opening in Chicago this week!
Moving Holds opens this Friday, April 20th at Western Exhibitions. For the show, Carré has created three different sets of work that all incorporate moving holds, as an idea, a technique, or both. Don't miss the opening reception from 5:00 to 8:00 PM this Friday!
We're busy as bees getting ready for our Spring conventions! MoCCA! Stumptown! TCAF! Here are some other fine events to keep you busy in the meanwhile:
You know, Trubble Club, the weird and wonderful jam comics produced by a Chicago-centric collective of the same name that includes Fanta-family folks Lilli Carré, Laura Park and Jeremy Tinder among many others. After 4 minicomic collections they've put together a doozy of a package for Vol. 5: a full-color Sunday funnies-style newspaper of all-new strips. They've brought in a few ringers to participate in addition to their regulars, AND it comes with a silkscreen print. You can buy a copy for 8 bucks from The Post Family online shop. Chicagoans can buy it at Quimby's. I got my order in... now I just need #4 to complete my collection.

This is the first exhibition that will include Stack’s all-important comics work. The opening reception is from 6-9 PM, and the exhibit runs until March 3, 2012. (more info)

Think you know what these people might be Googling to get out of their respective predicaments? Create, rank and share captions to these cartoons by Lilli Carré, Megan Kelso, Richard Sala, Jim Woodring and a bunch of other cartoonists. Another fine "let's throw some money at cartoonists" project from the folks at Google!

Is anyone else hearing the Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist theme song in their head looking at this animated GIF illustration for The New York Times op-ed by Lilli Carré? Bravo to the Times for letting Lilli do her animated-loop-drawing thing that she does so well.
