Mario Hernandez at the Latino Comics Expo

Come say hola to Mario Hernandez, who will be a special guest at the 2012 Latino Comics Expo in San Francisco!

On Saturday, May 5th, Mario will be signing copies of Love & Rockets from 1:00 to 2:30 PM.  And on Sunday, May 6th, from 1:15-2:00 PM, he'll be doing a very special reading from Love & Rockets, followed by a Q&A! Mario? Theatrical? Yes, it's true!

The Cartoon Art Museum [ 655 Mission Street between New Montgomery and Third Streets ] is around the corner from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and a dozen other museums which comprise the Yerba Buena Gardens cultural district of San Francisco’s South of Market area.

DeKalb, IL: The Northern Illinois Unversity Art Museum debuts the exhibition “Graphic Novel Realism: Backstage at the Comics,” curated by our own Eisner Award-winning graphic novelist, artist and editor, Paul Karasik, and featuring work from Joyce Farmer, Jaime Hernandez, Mark Newgarden and Megan Montague Cash, as well as Jason Lutes, Seth and James Sturm. Chicago, ILZak Sally will be at Quimby's signing copies of Sammy the Mouse Vol. 1, a self-published, self-printed collection of the first three issues of his Eisner-nominated Ignatz series. (more info)

Seattle, WA:  The idiosyncratic work of cartoonist Lynda Barry, a Seattle native, is the subject of a new book by Portland author Susan E. Kirtley. Lynda Barry: Girlhood Through the Looking Glass is the first comprehensive critique of this influential American artist. Kirtley will discuss her book with Real Comet Press publisher Cathy Hillenbrand, who published Barry’s first four books, at 6:00 PM at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery. An informal reception and book signing will follow the discussion. (more info)

Chicago, IL:  Join Zak Sally, along with John Porcellino and Dale Flattum, at Johalla Projects for the opening reception of "Physical Evidence," a show of their comics, printmaking, zines and more. (more info)

It's Back to School time for the Hernandez Brothers!

Gilbert, Jaime, & Mario will be the guests of honor, speaking to Professor Charles Hatfield's class on Monday, March 26th at the California State University, Northridge (in greater Los Angeles).

Class will be in session from 4:30 to 6:00 PM in Jerome Richfield Hall, Room 319. And, no test anxiety -- you don't have to be a student to attend! This event is free, open to the public, and is sure to be an inspiring and entertaining evening!

It's still over 8 months away but the Alternative Press Expo folks are wasting no time in announcing their first batch of special guests, including 3 Hernandez Brothers (Gilbert, Jaime & Mario), continuing their Love and Rockets 30th Anniversary U.S. Domination Tour (not the actual name of the tour), and the one and only Jim Woodring, debuting (knock on wood) his new book Problematic: Selected Sketchbook Drawings 2004-2011!

Mark your calendars for October 13-14 at the Concourse in San Francisco, and stay tuned for future news and updates!

It just wouldn't be Comic-Con without the Hernandez Brothers, and CCI has confirmed today that all 3 of the comics-creating bros., Gilbert, Jaime and Mario, will be special guests of the 2012 convention in July. This, of course, will be just one stop on their epic Love and Rockets 30th anniversary tour — stay tuned for lots more details and announcements!

Virginia Commonwealth University is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a special exhibit on The Hernandez Bros.

You can check out the display on the fourth floor of the James Branch Cabell Library [ 901 Park Ave., Richmond, VA ], until the end of the week, Saturday, October 15th.

Hey, we just found out that the "sometimes Y" Hernandez brother, Mario, is a special guest at the first annual Latino Comics Expo this weekend at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco! The first day is already over but Mario will be there for the full day tomorrow too, 11AM - 5PM, so it's not too late to meet an L&R OG! The museum also drops word of the Love and Rockets 30th Anniversary exhibit coming next year — stay tuned for further announcements about that!
