Megg is a depressed, drug-addicted witch. Mogg is her black cat. Their friend, Owl, is an anthropomorphized owl. They hang out a lot with Werewolf Jones. This may sound like a pure stoner comedy, but it transcends the genre: these characters struggle unsuccessfully to come to grips with their depression, drug use, sexuality, poverty, lack of work, lack of ambition, and their complex feelings about each other in ways that have made Megg and Mogg sensations on Hanselmann's Girl Mountain Tumblr. This is the first collection of Hanselmann's work, freed from its cumbersome Internet prison, and sure to be one of the most talked about graphic novels of 2014, featuring all of the "classic" Megg and Mogg episodes from the past five years as well as over 70 pages of all-new material.
"Simon Hanselmann is the real deal, for sure. He captures that stoner stay-at-home life so accurately that I actually find his comics really depressing and thank God I don't ever have to hang out with anybody like that ever again." – Daniel Clowes
"Megahex is basically about a bunch of people (and "people") watching TV and getting wasted and fighting and fucking and pranking each other. Oh, and depression. What's not to love?!" – Peter Bagge
Get ready to kick back, relax, and light up a joint with us as we…Um, we—what were we doing?
Oh yes! Office copies of Simon Hanselmann's eagerly awaited debut collection, Megahex, have hit our desks, and we are ecstatic to finally see this beloved webcomic in printed form, beautifully bound in hardcover. Whether you're a first time reader or longtime fan of Hanselmann's Megg, Mogg, and Owl comics, make sure to check out our downloadable preview to cool your cravings. The book is available for presale and is expected to hit stores in a month or so!
Meet Megg, Mogg, and Owl. Megg is a drug-addicted, depressed witch, and Mogg is her familiar — a cat who doesn't seem to respect her boundaries. Owl is an anthropomorphized owl. This first collection of Tasmanian-born Simon Hanselmann's online comic stars characters struggling with poverty, drug use, depression, sexuality, and their sometimes abusive relationships with each other. Megahex will feature three seasons of Megg and Mogg from the past five years, as well as over 70 pages of new material.
Our downloadable excerpt dives right into Megg, Mogg, and Owl getting high and getting in trouble. There is a party where Werewolf Jones shows off a party trick that results in an ambulance ride to the ER. Afterwards, the remaining party-goers have a "Horrible Feet Contest", which Werewolf Jones returns just in time to win.
