Here's two recent podcast interviews with STRANGE & STRANGER: THE WORLD OF STEVE DITKO author Blake Bell. First up is BlogTalkRadio and second is FanboyRadio. If you like Ditko, you must listen. There are no shades of grey here.
Blake Bell, author of STRANGE & STRANGER: THE WORLD OF STEVE DITKO, will appear as a guest on the live Mr. Media podcast on BlogTalkRadio this week (Wednesday, July 2) at 1:00 p.m. EST. This was rescheduled from June due to a power outage that prevented the originally scheduled interview.
The Mr. Media podcast will be archived online, but those listening live may call in and talk to Blake and ask that long-awaited Ditko question you've never known the answer to. Call in at (646) 595-3135.
Yesterday's Los Angeles Times Book Review features Blake Bell's Strange and Stranger: The World of Steve Ditko on the cover, and Geoff Boucher's review inside says "the book is an extremely satisfying archive of the artist's work, both famous and obscure, and... it intensely documents the twists and turns of his career." Blake is keeping track of more reviews on his own website, including the "A+" the book received from Sci-Fi Magazine, who call the book "an essential tribute to one of pop culture's most essential creators."
Steve Ditko is best known as the co-creator, with Stan Lee, of Spider-Man, Dr. Strange, and other classic Marvel and DC characters. But, in the context of Steve Ditko's 50-year career in comics, his creative involvement with Spider-Man is merely the tip of the iceberg. Strange & Stranger: The World of Steve Ditko is a coffee table art book tracing Ditko's life and career, his unparalleled stylistic innovations, and his strict adherence to his philosophical principles, with lush displays of obscure and popular art from the thousands of pages of comics he’s drawn over the last 55 years.
Tonight in Toronto: THE WORLD OF STEVE DITKO, a Canuckian book launch for Toronto author BLAKE BELL on Wednesday, June 18th from 7PM-9PM at the Lillian H. Smith Library (239 College St., Toronto). And yes, FREE.
Our fourth and final preview today is of Strange and Stranger: The World of Steve Ditko by Blake Bell. Unfortunately we weren't able to debut this book at the MoCCA festival as planned, but here you can take a quick virtual tour, and of course it is available for pre-order! Watch the video above and click here for a gallery of preview photos. (And don't forget you can also read the intro and, if you're logged in, get a downloadable PDF preview too.)
