St. Louis: The Lonesome Go Book Release with Tim Lane

Planes, trains, and automobiles. Also motocycles, or just your legs. Whichever method you prefer, just make sure you use one of them to get to the early book release and signing for the next great American classic, The  Lonsesome Go. Join author Tim Lane from 7-10 PM at this Subterranean Books event, in St. Louis, MO, to celebrate this beautifully constructed exploration of drama, myth, and classic American storytelling.

Tim is the author of the acclaimed book, Abandoned Cars, the existenssial noir collecting stories of mystery and Americana. The Lonesome Go is a follow up to those themes, but if we learned anything from college philosophy, these idioms and ruminations are not exactly solveable elements of human life. Which is what makes Lane's work so vibrant in our minds.

Subterranean Books, Tim Lane, and Fantagraphics would be delighted if you joined us Sept. 25 for this anticipated release!

"[Tim Lane] makes illustrations in that Brylcreem-soaked, hard-boiled, noir style with heavy hatching circa R. Crumb." – Juxtapoz

"Lane’s beautifully crafted pen-and-ink drawing combines a master artist’s eye for detail with a predilection for the grotesque to produce a superb blending of unforgettable images and poignant meditation on life’s tragic undercurrents." – Booklist

"…[Tim Lane is] a major new voice on the American literary landscape, with or without the illustrations." – Print

Tim Lane continues his exploration of the Great American Mythological Drama that began with his first book, the critically acclaimed Abandoned Cars. This collection of stories is broadly linked together by the experience of wandering — both literally and figuratively. With compelling verisimilitude, the lives of his characters are depicted by way of rich mixtures of obscure myths and documented facts, dreams and reality, belief and disbelief, throughout a haunted landscape populated by the ghosts of a complex and rich fictional tapestry. You'll witness a young man's dubious quest to discover the myth of the protagonist from an obscure vintage comic strip; encounter sociopathic hobos in boxcars and misled young men whose facial pores sprout worms and who throw up babies into gas station toilets; visit modern "Hoovervilles"; and experience the life and death of an undocumented immigrant bookstore doorman, former boxer, and expert hustler.

The Lonesome Go by Tim Lane - Cover

Train-hoppers, hitchhikers, drunken bar fights, clowns, amnesia, abandoned amusement parks—these are just a few examples of the myriad gritty and poignant imagery to be found between the covers of Tim Lane's new book, The Lonesome Go. This hefty, 296-page behemoth has landed on our desks, leaving us feeling both somewhat nostalgic for and perturbed by these stories, mythologies, and symbols, which shine a glaring light into the seedy underbelly of America.

Read our 22-page (12.9 MB) downloadable excerpt here, preferably with a steaming mug of cheap, truckstop diner coffee. The Lonesome Go should be out by October 2014, and we'll have more previews coming soon!

The Lonesome Go by Tim Lane - Excerpt
Written by Sonia Lei | Filed under Tim LanepreviewsComing Attractions 29 Jul 2014 2:00 PM

Tied loosely together by the experience of wandering, the collection of short stories in The Lonesome Go represents Tim Lane's continued exploration of "existential Americana." And the richly-drawn, detailed pages invite contemplation, rereading, and a wandering experience for the reader as well.

In our 22-page downloadable excerpt (12.9 MB), we are introduced to a bleakly introspective train passenger, a fourteen-year-old train hopper, and an unexpected, unwelcome Christmas guest. Read on, and perhaps wander over to our presale afterwards. We are expecting an early October 2014 release, with more previews on the way until then!

The Lonesome Go by Tim Lane - Cover

It is our great pleasure to reveal the final cover artwork for Tim Lane's upcoming book, The Lonesome Go, wherein he continues to explore the Great American Mythological Drama that he began with his first, award-winning book Abandoned Cars.

Haunting, rich, gritty, and filled with the familiar imagery, mythologies, and icons of middle America, The Lonesome Go is best described as a tapestry of loosely connected stories, tied together by the experience of wandering.

We're anticipating an August 2014 release for the book, though of course you can pre-order your copy now!

by Ed Piskor

112-page full-color 9" x 13" Flexibound softcover • $24.99

Cameos by Dolemite, LL Cool J, Notorious BIG, and New Kids on the Block(?!)!
