Steve Ditko Archives 4th volume now on comiXology
Written by Jen Vaughn | Filed under Steve Ditkodigital comicscomiXology 11 Dec 2014 3:02 PM
Impossible Tales
Terror, stress, aches and fears; all of these vibrate off the page in a Ditko comic from our most recent collection now available digitally on comiXology. Like its predecessors, Impossible Tales: The Steve Ditko Archives Vol. 4 features over 200 meticulously restored full-color pages of Ditko in his early prime - stories that have never seen a proper reprinting until now, thrilling stories of suspense, mystery, haunted houses, and unsuspecting victims all delineated in Ditko's wildly idiosyncratic, masterful style. This fourth volume ranks as the best in the Steve Ditko Archives series to date thanks in large part to the inspiration Ditko took from comics derived from the classic host-narrated radio shows, which gave an extra oomph to his creepy yarns, edited by Blake Bell.

All 241 pages of the occult, creepy and fantastic can be yours at the tap of a button and a download on comiXology for only $24.99. Check out the previous three volumes as well.

Aces High
Now soaring through the air waves and wifi networks to land safely on your digital reading device is ACES HIGH illustrated and some written by George Evans. This EC Comics Library is filled from wing tip to landing equipment with aviation war stories, including the titular comic of the same name, now available digitally thanks to comiXology. As a bonus, we present a rarity: Evans's never-before-reprinted 3-D story of World War I ace Frank Luke (in regular, easy-on-the-eyes 2-D). This volume also includes numerous Evans crime and shock stories, including "As Ye Sow...," "...My Brother's Keeper," and "Cadillac Fever." Other war stories, many done in collaboration with Harvey Kurtzman, include "Napoleon!" and "Flaming Coffins" (which Evans wrote, about the inherent perils of WW I aircraft). Like all books in the Fantagraphics EC line, Aces High features essays and notes by EC experts on these superbly crafted, classic comic book masterpieces.
Napoleon
With 210 pages of adventure, this $22.99 collection of masterwork comics with thrill you. The perfect digital comics for EC fans and WWI enthusiasts during the centennial of the Great War.

"All of these books are essential purchases for comics fans... These are the books that best show off how EC took genre stories seriously, striving to create comics that didn't treat readers as naive or ignorant." - The Los Angeles Times

"...I am not only appreciative...but also very impressed. [The books] are spectacular packages of their featured artist and their stories." - Al Feldstein

Miss Lasko-Gross at comiXology
Written by Jen Vaughn | Filed under Miss Lasko-Grossdigital comicscomiXology 19 Nov 2014 1:33 PM
Escape from Special
This week, we're all about Miss Lasko-Gross! The sold-out edition of Escape from "Special" is available digitally now thanks to comiXology! It is the coming-of-age story of Melissa, who we first meet as a small child and depart from at the end of the book just before she enters high school. Drawn in black and white and washed in moody blues and full spectrum grays, Lasko-Gross's art, with its detailed backgrounds and expressive characters, exquisitely conveys the story's blend of humor (sometimes of the gross-out variety) and keenly observed insights. Miss Lasko-Gross, who has the sensibility of a love child of Linda Barry and David B. midwifed by Judy Blume, has created a graphic novel that should appeal not only to the growing readers of graphic novels, but to teens grappling with similar unresolved questions. 185 pages of fantastic comics for only $13.99.

Meanwhile A Mess of Everything is continues the story of self-effacing non-conformist Melissa, now in high school facing a drug habit, alienation, accidental heartbreak and other issues in an intense, honest, and funny memoir. Busting out fifty more pages than the first book, A Mess of Everything can be your mess for $15.99 for 233 pages.
A Mess of Everything
"A compelling work... a stunning portrayal of what it takes to disentangle ourselves from the rules we're supposed to follow and forge our own path." - The Toronto Star

"Vividly imaginative in tricky layouts, intricate patterns and hallucinatory neverlands yet starkly perceptive of everyday details and personality, immune to art-star mythology while stockpiling stuff of legend, Lasko-Gross is capable of anything - but can't help doing right." - Adam McGovern, ComicCritique.Com

Schooling that The Crippler has paid for. In this debut work from Max Riffner, two brothers attempt to reconnect despite a wrestling ring's worth of differences. We guarantee you'll stay around until the final round. Much like Richard Sala's Violenzia, this book is a digital exclusive from Fantagraphics and comiXology and is only $9.99.

Megahex available on comiXology

Megahex
Today is the DAY, digital readers. Megahex by Simon Hanselmann is available. This is normally where'd we make a joke about digitall rolling up a joint to go with your reading but not everyone is as lucky as Washington (where pot is smoke a-freely). SO how 'bout instead you make some trashcan punch?

Megg is a depressed, drug-addicted witch. Mogg is her black cat. Their friend, Owl, is an anthropomorphized owl. They hang out a lot with Werewolf Jones. This may sound like a pure stoner comedy, but it transcends the genre: these characters struggle unsuccessfully to come to grips with their depression, drug use, sexuality, poverty, lack of work, lack of ambition, and their complex feelings about each other in ways that have made Megg and Mogg sensations on Hanselmann's Girl Mountain Tumblr. This is the first collection of Hanselmann's work, freed from its cumbersome Internet prison, and sure to be one of the most talked about graphic novels of 2014, featuring all of the "classic" Megg and Mogg episodes from the past five years as well as over 70 pages of all-new material.

These 214 joke-soaked pages are yours for only $22.99 so grab your copy of Megahex today on comiXology!

"Simon Hanselmann is the real deal, for sure. He captures that stoner stay-at-home life so accurately that I actually find his comics really depressing and thank god I don't ever have to hang out with anybody like that ever again." - Daniel Clowes
