Pretty in Ink: Acknowledgments

Pretty in Ink: North American Women Cartoonists 1896-2013 by Trina Robbins

From the editor: Unfortunately, Trina Robbins' acknowledgments were accidentally ommitted from her new book, Pretty in Ink: North American Women Cartoonists 1886-2013.

They will be included in the (knock on wood) next printing. Until then, Trina Robbins:

A heartfelt thank you to Kyle Ryan, Ellen Klages, Shaun Clancy, Jonathan Warm Day Coming, Patrick Ford, Bill McGrath, Christine Chambers, and Allan Holtz (and his great website, http://strippersguide.blogspot.com), for the priceless material that they provided; to Alexa Dickman, for her detective work that resulted in my finding Fran Hopper; and to Steve Leialoha, for putting together the pieces. This would still be a book without them, but it would not be half as good a book.

A special thank you to Alex Jay for his information on Katherine Patterson Rice, and for clearing up the Jean Mohr gender mystery; Jean Mohr, who was included in all my past books, is a man!

Captain Easy erratum

Captain Easy by Roy Crane, July 3, 1938

That "lickety-WHOP" sound you hear is us beating ourselves up over a recently-discovered error in Roy Crane's Captain Easy, Soldier of Fortune Vol. 3. Editor Rick Norwood explains:

"I made a serious mistake in editing Captain Easy Volume 3: an older strip appeared where the July 3, 1938 strip should have been. I apologize for my error. The missing strip will appear in Captain Easy Volume 4, and can be viewed now [above]."

Click the image above for a much larger and more legible version. Believe us, we are taking steps to ensure we don't miss any more misplaced pages in the proofreading process!

Sorry About That, Chief!

Mysterious Traveler by Steve Ditko - page 35
(Click for larger image.)

Early readers of the third volume of THE DITKO ARCHIVES, Mysterious Traveler, have already noticed two unfortunate glitches. The story "The Forbidden Room" is missing its ninth and final page (above), and "The Menace of the Maple Leaves" is also missing a page (below). Editor Blake Bell has been busy tearing his hair out ever since we learned this.

The fix, fortunately, is very simple: We'll just reprint both stories (in full, at full size), in the next volume of THE DITKO ARCHIVES, coming in the Spring, so collectors will have the full stories. For those who don't want to wait that long, we're also providing a downloadable PDF of the missing pages (7.9 MB).

You don't have to send us ass-kicking emails because our asses are already sore from self-inflicted kicking. And rest assured, we'll be very, very vigilant on future books.

Our Gang - Walt Kelly

On his blog Comics Commentary, Rodrigo Baeza points out a page which was apparently somehow omitted from our 2nd volume of Walt Kelly's Our Gang, shown above in a scan from microfiche. We regret the error.

UPDATE: We'll print this page at the end of Our Gang Vol. 5, which should be out as soon as late 2011.

Sorry, Bob

Jeez, poor Bob Levin can't catch a break: we've screwed up his byline in The Comics Journal twice in a row.
