Oh Panoptica Ficcio! Max Exhibit in Barcelona!
Written by janice headley | Filed under Maxeventsart shows 26 Feb 2014 10:13 AM

In 2012, a retrospective exhibition of Max's work, titled Panóptica, traveled through Europe with stops in Valencia, Madrid, Mexico City, and several cities in Brazil! (You can see some photos from those stops on the FLOG here and here.)

On Tuesday, March 11th, the Arts Santa Monica Museum in Barcelona opens a new exhibit from Max, continuing where his retrospective show left off: Oh Panòptica Ficció!

The exhibit will be accompanied by a comics workshop on March 20th-22nd, and a concert by Pascal Comelade + Bel Canto Orquestra on March 20th with Max drawing along.  The exhibit itself will run through Sunday, April 13th.

And don't forget, we'll be releasing Vapor this year! Max once again engages in delightful philosophical mind games, starring another wildly stylized and endearing protagonist — this time deploying a striking, crisp black and white graphic style perfectly suited for this desert-based fantasia.

Tony Millionaire Returns to Fantagraphics Bookstore on March 8!

Sock Monkey postcard

Join us on Saturday, March 8, at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery as we celebrate the publication of Tony Millionaire’s Sock Monkey Treasury with an art exhibition, book signing, and music concert.

Tony Millionaire's Sock Monkey is one of the great all-ages comics properties of the new millennium, spawning plush dolls, TV appearances, lunch boxes, Zippo lighters and more. The precocious sock monkey Uncle Gabby and his innocent pal Mr. Crow are the heroes of this funny, unsettling and endearing new collection.

Mr. Millionaire will also sign copies of his latest strip collection Green Eggs and Maakies, featuring the comical adventures of Drinky Crow on the high seas, blending vaudeville-style humor and a breathtakingly beautiful line that recalls the glory days of the American comic strip. Green Eggs and Maakies collects two years of Maakies in a deluxe landscape hardcover format.

The festive opening on Saturday, March 8, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM features music by Ashley Eriksson. Perhaps best known for her music associated with the wildly popular animated television series Adventure Time, Eriksson will perform songs from her recently released Colours album on K Records. This event coincides with the lively Georgetown Art Attack featuring visual and performing arts presentations throughout the historic district. Don’t miss this chance to meet one of the truly extraordinary artists of our time.

Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery is located at 1201 S. Vale Street, just minutes south of downtown Seattle. Open daily 11:30 to 8:00 PM, Sundays until 5:00 PM. Phone 206.658.0110. Find us on Facebook at: www.facebook.com/fantagraphicsbookstore.

"In his surrealist impulse and draftsman's brio, Millionaire is the closest thing we have to George Herriman of Krazy Kat." – John Hodgman, The New York Times

"Like Joe Strummer, like Prince Buster and more grandly, John Wayne, Mark Twain and Lewis Carroll, some aliases simply announce the true personality and imaginative potential of the bearer. Tony Millionaire is no exception..." – Elvis Costello

"Tony Millionaire is worth a thousand Tony Thousandaires." – Conan O'Brien

"I think Tony Millionaire can only do important things." – Dave Eggers

There's a significant event happening tonight for Significant Objects, our collection of extraordinary short stories inspired by ordinary stuff -- things like novelty items, discarded souvenirs, and tasteless kitchenware picked up cheap at thrift stores and yard sales.

And tonight, Friday, February 21st, at the Dallas Museum of Art, Significant Objects editor Rob Walker presents Materially Untrue: Stories About Objects Unearthed from Art Storage!

At 7:00 PM, four Texas authors (Will Clarke, Doug Dorst, Merritt Tierce, and Shay Youngblood) will debut original stories about objects unearted from DMA art storage.

This event is FREE and open to the public! A book signing will take place after the readings. The Dallas Museum of Art is located at 1717 North Harwood in Dallas, Texas.
