New York City - We know you have options in New York about where to get your free comic fix this coming Saturday during the national Free Comic Book Day holiday. But are any of those stores besides Forbidden Planet bringing in Dash Shaw and Ed Piskor for a signing? Didn't think so! Starting at Noon the Union Square store will be hosting these top notch artists to sign copies of their books. Titles they'll have on hand include "Cosplayers", and Doctors by Shaw, and the award-winning, action-packed Hip Hop Family Tree series by Piskor.

FCBD can be competetive, but we hope you get lucky with a copy of our Hip Hop Family Tree three-in-one. Featuring Ed Piskor's Hip Hop Family Tree series and Dash Shaw's Cosplayers! Piskor's half features excerpts from all three existing HHFT volumes, plus the Rob Liefeld/Spike Lee commercial adaptation and exclusive pinups by R Crumb, Scotting Young, Jim Rugg, Ben Marra, and more...! Shaw's side delivers an all-new, 24-page issue of his thoughtful and funny exploration of human endeavor and social interaction as seen through the lives of two cosplayers. Enjoy the works of two of the great contemporary graphic novelists of their generation! With exclusive wraparound cover by Piskor.

This annual tradition of free comics has turned into one of the most poppin' days of the year for many stores. Cosplayers, special sales, and in-store guests. Daniel Clowes Unveils the Complete Eightball at Fantagraphics Bookstore
Written by Larry Reid | Filed under The StrangerFantagraphics historyeventsDaniel Clowes 15 Apr 2015 12:15 PM

Please join us in welcoming a truly gifted artist, Daniel Clowes, to Fantagraphics Bookstore this Saturday, April 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM as we unveil the anxiously anticipated Complete Eightball 1 - 18.

Complete-Eightball2

With his long running Eightball series, Clowes combined enigmatic long-form stories with biting satire to create an enduring cultural milestone. In a cover feature in the current issue of The Stranger, Clowes recalls, "Almost everything in the comic is based on something, a joke I had with one of my friends or a real-life experience, and all the characters are based vaguely on people I know... It all feels like reading a diary almost, even though it's entirely fictional."
