tony

Thursday, September 4th

The beautiful people at the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum are hosting a lovely evening with the mad Maakies creator, Tony Millionaire. Beginning at 7 pm in the Jean and Charles Schulz Lecture Hall on the Ohio State University campus. Tony will be in conversation with the library's engagement coordinator, Caitlin McGurk, discussing the only two things worth discussing, life, and cartooning.

Millionaire's breadth of work has spanned many years, through many mediums. From original syndicated title Maakies, to the well beloved Sock Monkey series, and the Cartoon Network Adult Swim show, "The Drinky Crow Show". The recently released Sock Monkey Treasury collects the wonderfully victorian-stylized adventures of Uncle Gabby and Mr. Crow in their first complete book.

Don't miss this chance to hear a unique journey, from a unique man, whose influence can be felt in almost all aspects of our culture. This event is also wonderfully FREE and OPEN to the public!

Thursday, September 4th

Influential cartoonist, painter, and professor, Gary Panter, will be celebrating his newst work during an art exhibition at Fredericks & Frasier Gallery with an opening reception on September 4th, from 6-8 PM!

Surreal pop art, with a day-glo vibe. Or expressionistic sci-fi and punk cartoons. Maybe imaginative, and super saturated set designs. How about shoe illustrator? All of these things describe the award winning artist throughout his extensive and impressive career. Be a part of the brilliant madness with his third exhibition installment at the Chelsea gallery, that will open early on August 26th, and run through September 27th. Featuring original paintings and bead lists, which aesthetically sounds like the best thing ever.

Jim by Jim Woodring - Cover

July 30, 2014 – Seattle, WA. Jim Woodring is often described as among the most important cartoonists of his generation. This assessment is confirmed in the pages of JIM, the latest anthology of Woodring’s work. Meet this amazing artist at Fantagraphics Bookstore on Saturday, August 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

The eclectic content of JIM ranges from confessional autobiographical stories to the idiosyncratic allegorical comix that have come to define this prolific artist. This collection, available for the first time at Fantagraphics Bookstore, spans 30 years of spellbinding creativity.

Join us on Saturday, August 9 to commemorate the publication of this monumental work. The book signing coincides with the Georgetown Art Attack, which features challenging visual and performing arts presentations throughout the neighborhood's historic arts community.

And don’t miss our reception on Wednesday, August 6 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM for emerging Canadian cartoonist Georgia Webber with her compelling comix serial Dumb. This event will also serve to celebrate the City Arts Award bestowed upon Seattle cartoonist Max Clotfelter for his work in last April’s Intruder art exhibition at Fantagraphics Bookstore.

Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery is located at 1201 S. Vale Street (at Airport Way S.) just minutes south of downtown Seattle. Open daily 11:30 to 8:00 PM, Sundays until 5:00 PM. Phone 206.658.0110.

meltdown

Saturday, July 19th

To call this a mega signing might actually be selling this Meltdown Comic event short. Their week of preview events leading up to San Diego Comic-con is kicking off with a signing that literally has too many people to fit on a marquee, and they're not even done adding more comic super stars!

But here are just a few of the people you can expect to chit chat with this Saturday:

Jaime HernandezGilbert Hernandez, Gerard Way, Becky Cloonan, Jim Mahfood, Eric Esquivel, Joshua Hale Fialkov, Felipe Smith, Hannah Partlow, Tom Pinchuk, and the best up-and-coming comic talent, Natalie Hernandez. Plus many others yet to be added.

Both Hernandez bros have some new books out that have been blowing up the critics lists and quickly becoming fan favorites. Pack up your copies of The Love Bunglers, and Luba and Her Family, and head on down to Meltdown Comics. If you're going to SDCC, this will give you a little preview of what's to come, and if you're not going, this will ensure you get to hang out with some of the best. Everyone's welcome!
