Feiffer at the Strand - video
Written by Mike Baehr | Filed under videoJules Feifferevents 16 May 2008 9:55 AM

Here is the Strand bookstore's video widget, from which you can watch last night's Jules Feiffer presentation. (As a bonus, you can also watch Gary Panter with Jonathan Lethem.) If you come across this blog entry in the future and don't see the Feiffer link (or there's a live video feed going on), click the "highlights" tab; if you still don't see the link, click here to access the video on the Strand website. (And if you keep navigating the "highlights" tab, you'll find Alexander Theroux's reading from last February as well.)

Here's some pics from last night's Jules Feiffer event at the Strand, and we'll have video up soon as well:

Thurs. night in NYC: FEIFFER!
Written by Eric Reynolds | Filed under Jules Feifferevents 14 May 2008 8:21 PM

You New Yorkers are insane if you don't go to this tonight. Feiffer is going to be at The Strand Thursday night for the world premiere of EXPLAINERS. It's going to be pretty great. He's going to give a drawing presentation, read some of the strips of this historic book and then read a bit from his forthcoming memoir. It's going to be special.

Bagge & Reid in the P.I.
Written by Mike Baehr | Filed under Peter BaggeFantagraphics Bookstoreevents 9 May 2008 12:12 PM

Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery curator Larry Reid is the subject of a must-read profile by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer's art critic Regina Hackett, wherein Reid and Hackett have contentious opinions about Peter Bagge.

Speaking of the Bookstore, we hope to see you there tomorrow night for the Emerald City Comicon afterparty-slash-Jordan Crane exhibit opening!

This weekend is the big Emerald City Con in Seattle, and we'll be hosting signings with Jordan Crane (all day Sat. & Sun), Peter Bagge (Sat. 1PM) and Ellen Forney (Sunday at noon). We'll also have new books like Bottomless Belly ButtonExplainersRebel VisionsMost OutrageousAmor Y Cohetes and Mome 11. But, if you do one thing this weekend, do this, it's gonna be fun and the Jordan Crane art is fantastic and goes well with beer:

Weirdos: interactive slideshow with audio
Written by Mike Baehr | Filed under metaflogcastFantagraphics historyevents 7 May 2008 3:25 PM

The Rocket - August 1986 - cover by Gilbert and Jaime Hernandez

If you weren't able to make it to Larry Reid's slide lecture "Weirdos: Seattle’s Alternative Comics Culture in the Context of R. Crumb’s Underground" at the Frye Art Museum last month, or if you were and want to re-live it, we are very pleased to present it here on the website in a nifty interactive format. Stream or download the MP3 audio and follow along with the slides at the "ding," just like back in grade school! (You can also read the text of the lecture and browse the slides at your own pace, if you prefer.) Larry's speech is informative, entertaining and opinionated as always, and the slideshow includes a wealth of seldom-seen imagery like the Rocket cover by the Brothers Hernandez pictured above.
