OMG Shoes
Written by janice headley | Filed under Wilfred SantiagoPopeyefashionEC Segar21 9 Jun 2011 10:13 AM

I've just been loving all these Fantagraphics fashion posts I'm getting to write lately!  Keep it up, designers!!!

Clemente Sneakers 1

Clemente Sneakers 2

Clemente Sneakers 3

First up is this incredible pair of rare Roberto Clemente sneakers! Whoa. Here's the auction listing for 'em, and at that price, you better not be wearing them on the field!

[ Thanks to Anonymous Works for the tip! ]

Clemente Sneakers 4

Curious about that first pair, I dug around a little online, and came across these beauts, and some more information. Apparently, back in the 1970's, Clemente lent his name to this brand of Super Pro sneakers, sold exclusively in his homeland of Puerto Rico! I propose supplemental material on these shoes in a future Special Edition of 21: The Story of Roberto Clemente.

Olive Oyl Shoes

And I saved the best (in my girly-opinion) for last with these exquisite shoes, inspired by E.C. Segar's Popeye fashionista Olive Oyl. I sure wanna kidnap these handcrafted beauties by Israeli shoe designer Kobi Levi, but oops, looks like they're one-of-a-kind. Kobi, I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a pair of these today?

[ Props to Devlin Thompson and Cartoon Brew for the scoop! ]

Fantagraphics Fashion with Fenwick

Ray Fenwick dress for Threadless.com

Want. WANT. WantWantWantWantWant.

Are you kidding me?!  One of the few things I love as much as comics is fashion, so a dress featuring a print designed by artist Ray Fenwick is almost too much for me to handle.

Titled "Toothpick Swarm," this cotton jersey dress from Threadless.com features Fenwick's immediately-identifiable illustration work in a bold tomato-red print.

Ray Fenwick tee for Threadless.com

And fellas, Fenwick has you covered, too, with the "S.S. Aimless" tee, also available through Threadless.com.  Um... I kinda want this, too.

Of course, if you'd rather read it than wear it, just click here to get your copy of Mascots, if it's not on your bookshelf already. More of Fenwick's energetic work in his signature surrealistic style, and less laundry.

WHAT. I never heard about these Peanuts t-shirts from Jay-z's clothing line Rocawear until The Daily Cross Hatch posted that they're on sale. They're all pretty adorable but this Pig-Pen one is the best.

Yow indeed! Who better embodies "lust for life" than Zippy the Pinhead? Image (and post title) provided by our warehouse manager Nico Vassilakis. This photo is worth a million in prizes! Are we having Fun House yet? Etcetera!

Renee French t-shirt from McSweeney's

Renee French trap t-shirt from McSweeney's

Ooh, McSweeney's took one of Renee French's trap drawings and turned it into a t-shirt that you can buy. (They just have the one small image, and Renee said it was too dark so I brightened it up for posting here.)
