Filmmaker Gary VandenBergh is plowing through a revised round of fundraising via Kickstarter to complete Chicken Fat, his in-progress documentary on his late father-in-law Will Elder. As we've previously noted, Gary was a great help to us when we were putting together our book Will Elder: The Mad Playboy of Art, and we've been helping with the documentary by supplying digital images. Gary Groth vouches for VandenBergh as "a generally great guy."
The additional funds will enable the filmmakers to travel to California for more interviews (Hugh Hefner, Joe Dante, Daniel Clowes, William Stout) and to complete the editing.
Pledge gifts include DVDs of the finished film, copies of our Elder books, and more, all the way up to a credit in the film. See the Kickstarter page for much more info on the project.
Our own Zak Sally used to be in a band on that label, Low, and to help raise money for the Andy Kotowicz Family Foundation, he's auctioning off this beautiful original work of art on eBay. I'll let him explain it:
this is zak sally: what we have here is the original art for a flyer i did while i was in the band Low; copied this image on nice paper and sent it to all the promoters on some long-ass national tour that i can't remember which one now (maybe Songs For a Dead Pilot or Secret Name?). anyway, it's about 11x 17 image area, pen and ink (but you can see the non-repro blue pencil underneath) one corner where i overpasted is coming up but i'll glue that down for FREE. i wanted it to look like wallpaper and it looks like wallpaper but it's not it's a real live drawing. comics fans-- there's some lightly pencilled page on the back of the drawing called "Pig in: Shit." that i have no recollection whatsoever of drawing.
100% of the sale will go to the Andy Kotowicz family fund, so bid often and high.
Stephen DeStefano and his wife Siobhan have announced that he will be selling some comics and animation art and other memorabilia from his animation career on eBay in an effort to defray escalating vet bills as his beloved kitty Lola battles what's looking like cancer.
Having had our own experience with kitty cancer over the past couple of years, Janice and I strongly encourage you to send your support Stephen and Siobhan's way.
Filmmaker Gary VandenBergh is looking to raise funds via Kickstarter to complete Chicken Fat, his in-progress documentary on his late father-in-law Will Elder. Gary was a great help to us when we were putting together our book Will Elder: The Mad Playboy of Art, and we've been helping with the documentary by supplying digital images. We can vouch for Gary as, in Gary Groth's words, "a generally great guy."
They've already got a lot of great interviews in the can, including Art Spiegelman, Bill Griffith, Jay Lynch, Al Jaffee, Arnold Roth, Drew Friedman, the late Harvey Kurtzman, Bill Gaines and Will Elder himself, and many more; the additional funds will enable them to travel to California & England for more interviews (Hugh Hefner, Joe Dante, Daniel Clowes, William Stout, Terry Gilliam) and to complete the editing.
Pledge gifts include DVDs of the finished film, copies of our Elder books, and more, all the way up to a Producer credit in the film. See the Kickstarter page for much more info on the project.
