Tiny Showcase announces: "Tonight we have the pleasure of launching an edition of Kupperman's new book, Mark Twain's Autobiography 1910-2010, signed by the artist and coupled with an exclusive print. A combination archival-digital print with a translucent, glow-in-the-dark screen print overlay -- this showcase is designed to thrizzle. Everything you've ever dreamed of launches tonight at 7:30pm on Tiny Showcase." (They're in Providence so I believe that's Eastern time.)
We'll update with an image of the print once it's available, but we wanted to give you some advance warning since these Tiny Showcase editions are, uh, tiny and tend to sell out fast.
You'll wanna hail down one of these wonderful new tees from Jim Woodring, designed for our friends at the non-profit literary organization, Rain Taxi!
I don't even know where to start when it comes to all the great stuff Rain Taxi does for literature. You may already be familiar with their award-winning quarterly-publication Rain Taxi: Review of Books, which is frickin' free all across the nation. But they also power tons of great events, like the annual Twin Cities Book Festival!
So, not only are you sportin' some fine Pushpaw action across your chest, but you're also supporting an awesome organization!
And it looks like they still have some of the Joe Sacco-designed tee in stock, but only in size small!
Michael Kupperman ponders the possibilities of Mark Twain's passing in this positively perfect print for Desert Islandin Brooklyn. (My favorite possibility? Shot in the crotch.)
Get your own copy of this historically accurate print on Thursday, October 13th, at the book release party for Mark Twain's Autobiography 1910-2010. Store owner Gabriel Fowler notes that if there are any prints leftover at the end of the night (unlikely!), they'll be available online.
It's been a while since Paul Hornschemeier has had a new t-shirt design, but he's back... and he means business. As in this t-shirt design. Go get one and go for that promotion, available online at Paul's Forlorn Funnies Shirt Shop.
And there appears to be a new (I think) installment of "Crumb on Others" where the man holds forth his candid opinions on various prominent figures in comics and popular culture, from his underground contemporaries to Charles Schulz, from Walt Disney to Walt Kelly, from The Beatles to Bettie Page. Must read!
It will only be available at the 2011 Small Press Expo, happening September 10th & 11th in Bethesda, Maryland... and, I don't think it's gonna last long! (Kim! Gary! Somebody grab one for me!!)
More SPX details will be announced very soon! Make sure to take note of our panel schedule in the meantime...
If I were up on skate lingo I would be spouting the equivalent of "holy crap" here... Penguin has produced a series of limited edition skate decks featuring artwork from their Penguin Classics Deluxe line, including covers by Jason for Kerouac's Dharma Bums, Lilli Carré for Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and Thomas Ott for We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson. At Lilli's blog you can see a photo of her hoisting hers over her head. There was a Facebook contest where you could win one (which we learned of too late) and USA Today's report on the decks lists some promotional events on college campuses — no word on if/when you'll actually be able to buy these, though.
Our friends at Poketo have just released a new series of wallets entitled "You're a Riot, Grrrl!" -- each wallet featuring artwork by bold female artists, like Lisa Hanawalt, Hellen Jo, and our very own, Esther Pearl Watson!
I got the "Unlovable" wallet at San Diego Comic-Con, and lemme tell ya, so far, it's been quite lovable! The inside design boasts the truth "1978 Honda Hatchbacks are sexy" (damn straight) and it comes with a 1" Tammy Pierce button.
Poketo even did an illustrated interview with Esther on their blog, which you can read here, and you can get a wallet for yourself here. Totally.
One of Jim Flora's most iconic album cover designs, Inside Sauter-Finegan, is now available as a limited-edition fine art print from Jim Flora Art. Sez Flora doyen Irwin Chusid, "Eddie Sauter and Bill Finegan were famous for their orchestral mayhem. While Flora's mischievous cover figures didn't physically resemble Eddie or Bill, his caricatures reflected their inventive approach to redefining big band jazz in the 1950s." Dig it!
