Ted Stearn Directing MTV's Beavis & Butthead!
Written by janice headley | Filed under televisionTed Stearn 12 Dec 2011 12:08 PM

There were plenty of exciting announcements at this year's San Diego Comic Con, but one of the most exciting ones for me personally was hearing that our own Ted Stearn was going to be a director on the new series of MTV's Beavis & Butthead!

In fact, he's directed six of the stories in the revived season, which kicked off in late October to rave reviews! As someone who grew up watching the original series, I promise you, these new episodes are every bit as hilarious, dare I say, maybe even more so!

There's still more episodes yet to air on MTV, and you can watch some online here. Or just wait until February 2012 when the new season comes out on DVD! Yay Ted!!!

Vintage Jack Davis animated TV commercials
Written by Mike Baehr | Filed under videotelevisionJack Davisanimation 7 Oct 2011 1:59 AM

Excitement for our big art book Jack Davis: Drawing American Pop Culture is building, and in that spirit fan Mike Ewing took to Twitter to point out this great compilation of Davis's animated television commercials for various products, posted to YouTube by user "chiefzabu." Fun stuff! One stars Ruth Buzzi and to my ear it sounds like the great Frank Welker in the Lectric Shave one.

Michael Kupperman's Pablo Picasso cartoon from TV Funhouse
Written by Mike Baehr | Filed under videotelevisionMichael Kuppermananimation 7 Sep 2011 12:34 AM

I've been hoping Michael Kupperman's animated segments for Robert Smigel's TV Funhouse show would show up online, and lo, here's one on YouTube as pointed out by Michael on Twitter — watch it before the Viacom copyright elves make it disappear...

The Ooonifactor?

Adventure Time

James Kochalka spotted a possible homage to Jim Woodring in a recent episode of the (awesome) Cartoon Network show Adventure Time, as what look like denizen's of Woodring's Unifactor appear in Adventure Time's Land of Ooo. Dang, I just saw Adventure Time creator Pendleton Ward at TCAF, I could've asked him about it! (Via The Beat.)

Michael Kupperman’s star-studded and hilarious Snake ‘N’ Bacon [adult swim] pilot from 2009 is now on YouTube! Hooray!

Jim Woodring profile on the Seattle Channel tonight!
Written by Mike Baehr | Filed under videotelevisionJim Woodring 25 Mar 2011 11:51 AM

If you're in Seattle, tune in to the Seattle Channel's Art Zone program tonight at 8 PM as they broadcast a feature on Jim Woodring! Check out a preview clip embedded above. If you miss the premiere airing, don't worry, there's a full schedule of repeats to follow, and/or if you're outside the broadcast area, video will be available online too (in fact, I think the player above might play the full episode after it broadcasts).

The Problem Solverz promo video
Written by Mike Baehr | Filed under televisionjon vermilyeaBen Jones 8 Mar 2011 10:30 PM

Here's Cartoon Network's first promo for the Ben Jones-created show The Problem Solverz, debuting in April. Jones's Cold Heat collaborator Jon Vermilyea tweeted about it, and Jon's been working for Cartoon Network, so it's probably safe to assume that Jon's been working on this show, and John Pham's been working there too, so maybe he worked on the show too — don't quote me on that or anything though. (I guess I should contact the guys and ask them...) Anyway it looks super fun and I'm totally going to watch the heck out of it.

UPDATE: I contacted Jon and John and they confirmed that they are both designers on the show!

Video clip of our Seattle Channel CityStream segment

Here's a 4 1/2-minute "sneak peek" clip from last night's episode of The Seattle Channel's CityStream, which (as we previously noted) features a whole lot of us and (as we failed to note) some Jim Woodring. Looks like the full episode will go online next week after it runs through its broadcast schedule — we'll be sure to let you know.

Fantagraphics Bookstore Featured on the Tee Vee
Written by Larry Reid | Filed under televisionFantagraphics Bookstore 2 Mar 2011 11:26 AM

CityStream

On the eve of the Emerald City Comicon, the City of Seattle's official public affairs station will air a feature on Fantagraphics Books. The spot focuses on Fantagraphics resident curator Larry Reid examining the illustrious history of the Emerald City as the birthplace of alternative comix. It includes many wonderful works by distinguished local alternative cartoonists. In addition to the story on comix, the bookstore plays host to the entire "City Stream" episode. So if you haven't yet visited Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery, this show will give you a pretty good look.

The program debuts this Thursday, March 3 at 7:00 PM on the Seattle Channel (channel 21 on local Comcast cable systems.) It repeats several times throughout the week, and can also be seen as streaming video on their website.

If you're in town for the convention, be sure to visit the bookstore, drop by our booth at the con - and don't miss the fabulous "Con Artists" bash at the Jewel Box in the Rendezvous on Saturday night! See you all soon.
