MoCCA recap day 2: Boiling Over!

Check out Day 0 and Day 1, and then read on for the final day of the MoCCA Art Festival for 2008.

Sunday was a bit mellower than Saturday at the Festival... at least until the now-infamous fire alarm evacuation! Our first signer of the day was Leah Hayes, seen here, seated, with the just-arrived Ted Stearn and Dash Shaw:

Here's Dash again, chatting with Art Spiegelman:

Here, Jason draws in Sean T. Collins's famous David Bowie-themed con sketchbook. See the finished product here! (And stay tuned, I got Yodas to show ya.) Dash and Jason's new books sold out during their signings.

Dig Kim's amazing bootleg Tintin shirt that he got in Tibet:

In the late afternoon, the fire alarm went off and FDNY evacuated the Puck Building reportedly due to an overheated/smoking boiler. Here's the scene on the street outside, with at least 4 FDNY trucks on the scene:

Kim Deitch and Michael Kupperman, undaunted, work right through the evacuation and the 99-degree heat outside:

After FDNY gave the all-clear and exhibitors were let back in the building, I made my move to meet Lynda Barry at the D&Q table before the attendees were let back in. Hoo-wee! Let me tell you, meeting Lynda is like getting struck by lightning, except instead of painful electricity it's bliss-inducing awesomeness. Thumbs up and thanks to the D&Q folks, particularly the ever-rad Jessica Campbell.

Due to the interruption, the Festival organizers extended the show hours, and we extended the signing time for Deitch and Kupperman to overlap with the next scheduled artists, which worked out very nicely as they all seemed to have a great time together. Here's Kim Deitch, Miss Lasko-Gross, Michael Kupperman and Ted Stearn, having more fun than it looks like they're having, really:

Post-show, we packed up and brought our remaining boxes back over to Rocketship (where they were shipped back to our warehouse from). I was able to get a better look at the Jason exhibit and do a little shopping of my own:

Thanks to Alex and Kelly and their neighbors Molly and Sabrina (and cats Linus, Lucy and Fernando) for a very hospitable wind-down to a hectic weekend, and thanks to Georgene and Robert Goodin for accompanying us to a fun Monday breakfast. Thanks again, of course, to all the Festival attendees who stopped at our table. And of course the biggest acknowledgement has to go to Janice, who graduated from volunteer helper at last year's festival to second-in-command this year and rocked it out. I hope I'm not forgetting anyone else worthy of a shout-out!

That wraps up the MoCCA recap for 2008. Next up, we'll see you at Comic Con in San Diego!
