John Hankiewicz

John Hankiewicz was born in Chicago in 1971. He attended Roosevelt University for his undergraduate studies, obtaining a B.A. in English. After obtaining an M.A. in English from Ohio University, he taught first-year writing at the college level for several years.

In 1995, John began self-publishing Tepid, a more-or-less annual comic, and since then has created numerous minicomics and artist's books, as well as contributing to numerous anthologies. Funded with a Xeric Award, the Summer '03 issue of Tepid was nominated for a 2004 Ignatz Award in the category of Outstanding Comic, and Dance was a 2005 nominee in the category of Outstanding Minicomic. John's work has also appeared in Kramer's Ergot, Arthur magazine and The Chicago Reader. In addition, he is a printmaker whose etchings have been included in several juried exhibitions, including the 18th National Parkside Small Print Show.
