Akane Torikai, born in Osaka in 1981, made her debut as a manga creator in 2004. Her works span the shojo, josei, and seinen categories, and include Sensei no Shiroi Uso, 2013–2017 (released by Kodansha USA in four volumes as Sensei’s Pious Lie in 2022), Jigoku no Girlfriend (Girlfriend from Hell), Romance Bofuiki, and Saturn Return. She is best known for naturalistically exploring issues such as sexual assault, depression, and trauma from a literary, feminist perspective.
