Douglas Michael (1956 – 2023) born in Columbus, Ohio, began his career as a cartoonist for the Columbus Dispatch while attending Ohio State University. He continued piecing together his freelance career in New York City, publishing a series of underground comic books during the 80s and working as a cartoonist for National Lampoon, DC Comics, Fantagraphics, Waterkeeper magazine, and others, while also reading manuscripts for literary agents at the William Morris Agency. Under the pseudonym William Seebring, Douglas also wrote several one act plays, including The Original Last Wish Baby, published in “The Best American Short Plays 1995-97”. Doug's career took an unexpected turn after he contracted Lyme's disease, setting him on a new path researching the “Food as Medicine” movement which soon became an obsession. His unique flourless sprouted sourdough bread and flax granola became a reality in 2008 with the founding of Columbia County Bread & Granola in Bloomsburg, PA. Doug’s curiosity, sense of humor, and genuine love of humanity set the stage for his amazing life and legacy.
