Space Heater by the Sea and Other Stories

This collection of slice-of-life, magical realist manga stories, centered around themes of cold and warmth, marks the English debut of an enchanting new mangaka.

After a painful breakup, a young man's space heater helps warm his cold heart. On a snowy evening, a trucker encounters a yuki-onna (snow woman), and helps this icy yokai experience the joys of summer. An aspiring novelist is swept to the bottom of a frigid sea of self-doubt, and searches for a way to come up for air. Rattled by news of her pregnancy, a young woman misses the last train home; an empathetic older woman keeps her safe during the cold night, and together they walk out into newly fallen snow with a fresh perspective.

Space Heater by the Sea is the highly anticipated English debut of rising manga star Oshiro Kogani. This volume collects gem-like, slice-of-life, magical realist vignettes loosely united by themes of cold and warmth. Her vision is whimsical, warm-hearted, and infused with a delicate indie sensibility.
